NS 741, an empty coal train, rolls through the tiny hamlet of Delaplane, formerly known as Piedmont Station in the Civil War era. Stonewall Jackson's Brigade embarked from here on trains to participate in the battle of 1st Manassas in 1861. This marked the first time the railroad was used for a massive troop movement.
The Albatros D.Va in flight — one of Germany’s most distinctive First World War fighters. With its streamlined wooden fuselage, sesquiplane wings, and twin Spandaus, it served on the Western Front in 1917–18 with pilots such as von Richthofen and Udet. Though eventually outmatched by newer Allied designs, it remains an iconic symbol of the late-war Luftstreitkräfte.

The hamlet of Midvale, Virginia has never been more than a few houses clustered around a gravel road crossing the Norfolk and Western - now Norfolk Southern - Roanoke district. The north siding switch of the 6012’ siding beginning at milepost H175 is named “Midvale” while its south siding switch counterpart is named “Twin Falls”. In this area of the Shenandoah Valley, the route of N&W predecessor Shenandoah Railroad follows the gently descending path of the South River and Maury River from Vesuvius south to the James River at Glasgow.
In the fading twilight minutes after sunset, southbound Norfolk Southern manifest 15T (Allentown, PA to Irondale, AL) flashes past Midvale.

Questo museo di fama mondiale si compone di tre ali: Denon, Sully e Richelieu. Non basterebbe un giorno intero per esplorarne i dipinti, le sculture, le opere di arte decorativa, i reperti archeologici mediorientali ed egizi, l'arte islamica, le stampe, le bozze e i ritrovamenti greci, etruschi e romani. Le opere della collezione coprono un arco temporale che va dal 5000 a.C. al XIX secolo.
