One year ago I was on holiday in Nippon. These are some photo's of exactly one year ago.
They held the Tokyo Motorshow from October 24th - November 4th 2019 with motto: Open Future. It was divided over two locations: the Ariake exhibition (@Tokyo BigSight) and Aomi exhibition (@Tokyo Teleport). They were 1,2km apart and there was a shuttle or you could take the metro or walk between the sites on the "Open Road" where they lined up all kind of interesting cars like this replica of Usain Bolt's gold Nissan GT-R. He was gifted one by Nissan because he is the fastest man alive.
Yes, 9.72s!! I will always remember this guy’s name: Usain Bolt from Jamaica – just like a lightning bolt, 21 years old, the 5th time in a race and he broke the men’s 100m world record… I watched the whole race live at the Icahn Stadium in the Reebok Randall’s Island Grand Prix meet. It was breathtaking… in fact, he got Tyson Gay (9.85s) chasing the whole way, read here.
I and several friends of mine were watching the whole tournament especially to see the world champion and Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiang to compete in the Men’s 110m hurdle. But it turned out that Xiang mildly hurt his hamstring during practice and therefore couldn’t race just to be conservative for the coming Olympics … he came and said sorry to all the fans though :) It was late at night. Just when we were about to leave, someone said oh let’s see the last race - the Men’s 100m. And of course we stayed and were expecting Tyson Gay to put up yet another amazing performance. But now you know what happened… I am glad that I wasn’t trying to shoot photos in the race otherwise I would miss seeing the most amazing 100m race in my life. I was standing in the middle of the home stretch on the audience stand. There were 2 false starts before they finally got a clean one… when the runners passed my location, Usain Bolt was 1.5 yard ahead of Tyson Gay and both seemed to be in the same pace but we then saw Mr. Bolt hit the finish line first. I was just about to talk, one of my friends yelled at us – look at this, 9.71. He broke the world record!!! (they later adjusted it to 9.72 adding the wind speed) Oh yes, I knew that Tyson would not run slow but it was this guy who ran really fast… just amazing! Then he walked the whole lap and came around to the home stretch again... that's when I took this photo. There were thousands of Jamaican fans chanting and he waved to them, may not be realizing how excited everybody was…
Oh btw, it was a nice Saturday evening, loved it! I watched the amazing performances by Veronica Campbell-Brown (my all-time favorite :)) (10.91s) in the Women’s 100m, Wallace Spearmon’s 20.07s in 200m and Xavier Carter’s 44.70s in the Men’s 400m. Really nice races! And, Sanya Richards was signing autographs and taking photos with fans at the end :)

Usain Bolt's 9.63 seconds was just 0.05 seconds slower than his own world record, was a new Olympic best and capped a race in which seven men went under 10 seconds.

Usain Bolt Signs Lifetime Partnership Deal With Puma - Usain has been with Puma since the early days of his career but once found himself on rocky ground after a disappointing season in Athens. Since then Bolt has reinvented himself and climbed to the top of track and field giving the Puma brand tremendous leverage. “Usain has a lifetime partnership with Puma not predicated on him being an athlete. Usain will always be an athlete but even with the music it’s an expansion of the lifestyle brand…even during the pandemic, Usain was not competing but creating news in various ways. That’s how you transition into lifestyle,” Walker said. LINK - www.dancehallmag.com/2021/06/17/features/interviews/usain...
Usain Bolt - The Honourable Usain St. Leo Bolt, OJ, C.D. (born 21 August 1986), is a Jamaican sprinter and a five-time World and three-time Olympic gold medalist. He is the world record and Olympic record holder in the 100 metres, the 200 metres and (along with his teammates) the 4×100 metres relay. He is the reigning Olympic champion in these three events, and is one of only seven athletes (along with Valerie Adams, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Jacques Freitag, Yelena Isinbayeva, Jana Pittman, Dani Samuels) to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior level of an athletic event. His achievements in sprinting have earned him the media nickname "Lightning Bolt", and awards including the IAAF World Athlete of the Year, Track & Field Athlete of the Year, and Laureus Sportsman of the Year.
Bolt is the only sprinter to win Olympic 100 m and 200 m titles at three consecutive Olympics (2008, 2012, and 2016). He also won two 4 × 100 relay gold medals. He gained worldwide fame for his double sprint victory in world record times at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which made him the first person to hold both records since fully automatic time became mandatory.
An eleven-time World Champion, he won consecutive World Championship 100 m, 200 m and 4 × 100 metres relay gold medals from 2009 to 2015, with the exception of a 100 m false start in 2011. He is the most successful male athlete of the World Championships. Bolt is the first athlete to win four World Championship titles in the 200 m and is one of the most successful in the 100 m with three titles, being the first person to run sub-9.7s and sub-9.6s races.
Bolt improved upon his second 100 m world record of 9.69 with 9.58 seconds in 2009 – the biggest improvement since the start of electronic timing. He has twice broken the 200 metres world record, setting 19.30 in 2008 and 19.19 in 2009. He has helped Jamaica to three 4 × 100 metres relay world records, with the current record being 36.84 seconds set in 2012. Bolt's most successful event is the 200 m, with three Olympic and four World titles. The 2008 Olympics was his international debut over 100 m; he had earlier won numerous 200 m medals (including 2007 World Championship silver) and held the world under-20 and world under-18 records for the event until being surpassed by Erriyon Knighton in 2021.
His achievements as a sprinter have earned him the media nickname "Lightning Bolt", and his awards include the IAAF World Athlete of the Year, Track & Field Athlete of the Year, BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year (three times), and Laureus World Sportsman of the Year (four times). Bolt was included in Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2016. Bolt retired after the 2017 World Championships, when he finished third in his last solo 100 m race, opted out of the 200 m, and pulled up injured in the 4 × 100 m relay final.

Usain Bolt's stare melts my heart ♥ He is 1 month and a half old!
His breed is a Lagotto Romagnolo.
Lagotto Romagnolo the only breed of dog that is officially recognized as specialized in truffle hunting". Because of the dog's coat that makes it withstand the icy cold water for hours, the Lagotto has excelled as retrievers for centuries. He is a truffle hunter.
Update:
Usain Bolt crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Sept 1st 2012. He was hit by the post-woman car in front of our house. She said she didn't notice that she had run over the dog.......

Do I need to tell you, the unstoppable Usain Bolt just after winning the Olympic 100 metres at Rio 2016 - his third 100 metre's Gold Medal in a row.
Another experiment using Prisma + Pixel Bender on an image taken from a television broadcast using my old iPhone 4S. Quite a pleasing result, to my eye at least.

The formation of the runners turned out way better than the one from the gold medal race, but the same guy won them both.
This was built for Bricks Culture Magazine as part of my one year residency. My challenge was to create a portrait. For a full explanation for the build you will have to read the article but essentially I wanted to portray a sporting hero of mine (in motion) and who better than Usain Bolt, especially as the Olympics are just around the corner. The terracotta background was inspired by ancient Greek pottery creating another connection to the Olympics. I really hope you like this one as it is my favourite of my ‘in motion’ range.
I have used glue to create this photo however the build is possible without glue, it only needs a transparent piece supporting the groin.
I would love to hear your comments.

One of my favorite frames from a recent senior portrait shoot. More details below!
Technical Details:
Camera - Sony A7
Lens - Zeiss 55mm
Strobist Info Two Yongnuo YN560-IVs in a Westcott Rapidbox Duo both at 1/1 power directly in front of subject. One bare Yongnuo YN560-III behind subject for rim at 1/2 power.
This was a tricky shot to pull off because it was shot before sunset and there was still considerable ambient light at play. I had to crank up the power on all of the flashes to compensate for crushing the ambient. This meant I only got one frame each time the runner launched out of the starting blocks. I actually had one flash overheat after a long series of starts. This is the first time that one of my flashes has malfunctioned on the job.
I like the final shot after I darkened the backdrop completely to black in photoshop. Final edits done to color in Lightroom CC using modified VSCO Film Portra 400 preset. Let me know what you think in the comments.
I took this on a recent trip to France for Samsung's NX Speed Pass event, check out what I got up to in Paris and more photos from the trip in this blog post. While I was there I also got to see how my Brighton Swimming photos are being used to promote an exhibition at the Palais Da Tokyo, read more about that on my blog here.
Taken on a Samsung NX300. The NX300 Tiny DSLR like camera it dose not have a viewfinder which means the camera is really small but it has an APS-C size sensor. Read my Samsung NX300 review here.

Last night was a historic one in Beijing for Track and Field. I had the honor this evening of riding to the stadium wiht Herb Douglass and Harrison Dillard from the US 1948 Olympic Track team (London) and we all agreed that if Bolt focused he could break the record. My prediction was 19.29... His 19.30 performance was simply unheard of...
Beijing National Stadium, also known as Bird's Nest, is a new architectural wonder of China and the main venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as track-and-field events of 2008 Beijing Olympics. The design grew from brainstorming sessions between the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and the Swiss architectural firm Herzog & deMeuron.
