Sometimes there are unexpected discoveries that happen when you least expect them. I was in the Vauxhall area of London recently and was wandering around the Oval cricket ground hoping to find something interesting to shoot. I never really did and I decided I'd had enough of the area and wanted to move on. The Oval tube station was nearby so that seemed a good place to make my escape from. Imagine my surprise when I passed through the barriers and came across these absolutely fabulous art deco styled uplighters gracing the escalators.
I am continually harassed by security guards these days so I knew it probably wouldn't be long before I was told to move on. But I did manage 5 or 6 shots. I would have hoped for a single person on one of the escalators but that never happened in the short time I was there. But as Arnie famously said - I'll be back!
A small sailboat ready to sail pass the Lorain Lighthouse as it makes it's way back to the Lakeside Marina.
It was the end of a mid-summer color-filled evening.
A summer classic. A joy to see. Thanks for looking.

A very commonly photographed spot, I haven't been here for a while and with the approaching storm I figured I would have a slim chance for some nice uplighting.

Atlantic Ocean and end up high in the atmosphere over South Florida.
It tends to make our sunsets more 'intense' and 'vivid' for a few weeks,
until the stronger tropical hurricane season wind moves it out for good.]

The 1930's Art Deco platform level concourse at Turnpike Lane LT Underground Station, one of a series of images I have been re-processing for my webpage.
The station was designed by the architect Charles Holden and is a well-preserved example of the modernist house style of London Transport in the 1930s. It was listed at Grade II in 1994. The ticket hall is an enormous brick box, with two large ventilation towers, half-sunk into the surrounding ground. Its high walls contain segmented windows that allow natural light to shine far into the station. The effect in late afternoon light is akin to that in a cathedral transept.
It's on the Piccadilly Line, and is part of an extension to Cockfosters built in the 1930's.
Municipal Theatre, Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
It is Art Deco weekend this weekend in Napier, where the whole town celebrates it's Art Deco heritage.
So here is an Art Deco light which is on the side of the Municipal Theatre
...and a lovely time of the evening to wander the streets of down-town Mount Gambier in South Australia. This is our old town hall complex, with wonderful pavement based uplighting throwing wonderful light and shadows on the old sandstone.
