Sometimes, I think to myself that I'd be far more human if I were just a robot. Maybe that's not so strange, after all.

Sometimes when the weather stops me from going out to take photos I look for inspiration around the house. This was taken on one of these occasions. The Kodak Six-20 Brownie model D is a recent purchase and I may see how well it still works.

Charleston's iconic upgrade, the Arthur Ravenel Bridge constructed in 2005. It replaced 2 older bridges constructed in 1929 and 1966. The 1929 Bridge rated a 4 on a scale of 100,while the newer bridge was rated "imminently deficient". Senator Arthur Ravenal was instrumental in getting the Federal funding for this beauty...

Sylvenstein Dam is an earthen embankment dam in the Isar valley, in the alpine part of Upper Bavaria, Germany which impounds the Sylvenstein Reservoir (German: Sylvensteinspeicher).

Several hydropower plants were built in the tributary of the upper Isar river in the 1920s, for example at the Achensee and Lake Walchen Power Plant. Therefore, the river ran nearly dry during the dry season. This mainly affected the town of Bad Tölz. A reservoir was established to ensure a minimum level of water in the river. During the dry season a volumetric flow of 4 cubic metres per second is released to prevent the Isar from running dry. Additionally, the reservoir provides flood control for the Isar river between Bad Tölz and Munich.

The dam is 44 metres (144 ft) high and has a length of 180 metres (590 ft). It was built between 1954 and 1959. From 1959 on, the water was also used to drive a hydropower plant of 3.2 MW. The plant was upgraded in 2000 with new turbines to generate 3.8 MW.

During the 2005 European floods, because the maximum capacity of the reservoir was reached, more water than normal had to be released into the Isar river, but the flooding would have been more severe if the Sylvenstein Dam had not been present.

CP 5936 and 6258 creep out across the Kennebec at Moosehead, ME with a rail train in tow. The train had taken the siding to allow CP 250-5 to pass. Afterwards, they would pull beyond the road for Brookfield Energy, and would proceed to drop the last 8 or so strands of rail.

Went on a long trip to Jackson Co. Indiana to find a Whooper Crane reported on FB. struck out but this fallow offered a few pointers on how to feed in the mud. For so many years one of the 'must do' shots on the Blyth and Tyne railway was here.

Passenger services between Ashington and Newcastle were re-instated after a 60 year gap in December 2024. As part of the line upgrade, a new run round loop was installed at Bedlington, meaning that the Alcan services no longer cross this bridge.

Back in July 2020 'Cambridge PSB' on the last leg of the long journey from Fort William crossing the River Blyth with the 6E45 empty alumina tanks. The train left the smelter in Scotland at 08.03, and arrived at the North Blyth import terminal a few minutes after this photo was taken at 20.45.

CHS GP15-1 687 switches in Superior, WI. This unit replaced the switchers that used to work here.

Last week, the Eagle Street Pier, a precinct of restaurants along the Brisbane River, nestled under some very tall high rise buildings closed after about 30 years of being one of the city's prime entertainment and dining areas. The whole area is being wiped away and replaced by an entirely new facility, including even more high rise blocks, restaurants, an upgraded river walk - all of which will take many years to build but should hopefully be done and bedded down well before the 2032 Olympics.

The two paddle wheelers, Kookaburra Queen and KQ II have been based here for years so no doubt these two floating restaurants will be relocating. Not too far beyond where they are tied up, Edward Street comes down from the centre of town and meets the City Botanical Gardens and it is at this point that another of what the Brisbane City Council calls its "green bridges" for pedestrians is being built across to Kangaroo Point.

Even now the city feels like a gigantic construction site and sadly is not always an attractive and easy place to walk around because of that. I guess we can't stop progress and in these difficult economic times, I doubt we should provided it is done tastefully and with recognition of the heritage places.
