The little ocean on top of the BBQ. Sums up English garden living. No more barbies this year :-)

I like everything in this picture, the reflection, the gentle waves..and the treatment of course!! :D

Its Hdr too from one single raw because my tripod is too light for my camera :D, I've done photomatix hdr, one layer of Gaussian blur, one layer for leveling adjustment, a little bit of colors desaturation and then unsharp mask. I hope its not too overdone.

This picture is like my feeling in the long times of COVID-19 lockdowns. Isolated and and a unsharp piece in a big see of loneliness and sadness.

Usually these kind of photos make it straight into my bucket - but somehow I like this one. Maybe someone else likes it too.

Camera: Nikon F90

Sometimes i remember a moment what must be somewhere on one of my drives. After browsing a while i found the moment. This one is from a few months earlier, the sun was gone but the sky keeps coloring wonderfull. It was near dark, the nikkor 24-70 has no VR and i was shooting handholding (like i always do) so it's possible you notice some unsharpness.

This was one of those evenings there are just a few in a year.

#SlidersSunday

A photo that I'd always wanted to upload, but I somehow was never happy with the necesseray sliding - until now. Why "necessary" sliding?, you might ask. Well, this was a mere snapshot, one of those "hit the shutter button quickly or that moment is gone" shots that we all know about. Taken already in late spring 2018, when Sabine.R and I were waiting for the blue hour at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of the Cultures of the World - HKW -, the former Berlin Congress Hall). The HKW lies amidst the huge Tiergarten park area, and some of the tall trees there apparently were the local crow population's nighttime gathering place. While the area was almost totally devoid of humans, there was quite a bustle and hustle, a constant coming and going of crows - at a considerable noise level, so probably their day had been an eventful one, and now they were swapping stories ;-) The HKW isn't an easy buidling to photograph (please check my album for more images, if you like), and at one point I was as interested in the crows (which also met on top of the HKW's roof) as in the building itself. When I spotted this crow - and its landing shadow - I was just about to take my camera down to walk around the building to find a different, more interesting angle to shoot from. So I quickly switched my cam (my faithful little "always in my bag" LX100) back on and hurried to get my, hopefully sharp enough, shot. And sort of sharp enough it was, but only sort of. Especially the roof had just a little too much (motion) blur to make it pleasant to look at.

And here the necessary sliding comes in. Apart from cropping the image to that "pop-artish" square format and increasing the colours' saturation and such for that extra "pop", I felt that I had to do something about the "ever so slightly too unsharp" parts of the roof. In the end I decided to borrow the concrete texture from one of the many other sharp images I'd taken there. It was a little tricky to blend the texture in at the correct angle, because even if one thinks so, one never takes two images at the exact same angle, but in the end I think I got it right. Sort of ;-) There also was some considerable noise reduction / detail extraction going on (not in one processing session, but literally over the past months, because I would return to this image every now and then) which, for most of the part, were painstakingly done by masking things out in PS. So it was some sort of revelation and also a slight annoyance when I applied my finishing touches only yesterday - in my newly bought programme Topaz Sharpen AI - which did all of the aforementioned: decrease the motion blur and noise, and sharpen the image still some more...in one single step ;-)

Happy (Sliders) Sunday, Everyone, stay safe, stay well, stay happy!

In bird sequence, you should make a montage. Select a few birds’ photos and use each photo in a different layer. First, you should zoom in and check the birds’ head to see if the eyes and head are sharp, then keep the photo. If the bird’s eyes are slightly unsharp or blurry just delete it before you work on the image. Select 2 or more images that are sharp and stack them together in a post processing software like photoshop. For example, for 3 photos you need 3 layers. You can watch YouTube videos on how to use different layers and stack together. Have a great day!

Depth of field is the distance between the closest and farthest objects in a photo that appears acceptably sharp. Now your camera can only focus sharply at one point. But the transition from sharp to unsharp is gradual, and the term ‘acceptably sharp’ is a loose one! Without getting too technical, how you will be viewing the image, and at what size you will be looking at it are factors that contribute to how acceptably sharp an image is. It also depends on how good your vision is!

Scientifically, it is based on something called the circle of confusion. This involves more physics than I’m going to get into here! Spencer talks about it in his article “Hyperfocal Distance Explained.” So check that out for more of the technical details if you are so inclined.

In these two sketches, I have tried to illustrate what is meant by a narrow and large DoF. In a photograph with a narrow DoF, only a small slice of the image is in focus. Conversely, with a large DoF, much more of the scene is sharp.

This image is straight from the camera apart from resizing and cropping to 3:2 format plus gentle unsharp masking ( no fault of the lens, the exposure was 1/20s! ). The review praises the camera's colour accuracy.

Macro monday 11.11.2019 "Reflections"

The unsharp (upper) part is the original, the sharp part the reflection.

Focus stack

ISO 1250, f/6.3, 1.6 second. And of course handheld. The time, and the shivering coming from a full throttle acceleration made the wing unsharp, which made the pic even more of a painting.

Matrix Island is a boat moored in St Katharine Docks, London. Its the only boat I've seen that has a children's trampoline so close to the edge of the deck.

This was a snapshot and test to check out the performance of my sigma tele lens with the 2x sigma teleconverter. I shot the picture with open aperture I'm satisfied with the rusult but if I zoom inside the picture I can see that I lost a lots of details by using the tele converter :-(

I made a few more pictures with this lenscombo and tried to find out how much I have to close the aperture to get more details.

The results are poor. I have to close the aperture to f16 to get a fine detailed picture. I'm sure that I get better results by using a cheap sigma superzoom tele lens.

But I think the quality and details is not all :-) the picture is still looks good.

This picture was shot on a tripod with three exposures (-2..0..+2EV). I used Photomatix to create the HDR with tonemapping and detail enhanced. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. Unsharp Mask to increase detail on the landscape and the rocks.

This was shot along one of the stops along Highway 84 to Multnomah Falls. You can see Vista House on Crown Point in the distance on the right. The view of the Columbia Gorge is spectacular from this view point.

Recently, I've changed back the front lens of my Helios 44-2 to its normal position since it is much more versatile compared to the extreme bokeh together with the unsharp look of the modification. As often, I walked around in our garden and took a few shots of our Cosmos. The light wasn't that great, but after a few edits on my computer I really like this shot due to its painterly look. I hope you like it too!

The today Theme on MacroMonday is a fantastic Theme but it's also not easy to find something different to the fotos that were shown up to now. First I decided to take a pictiure from my American football stupidly I found it demaged in the cellar. So I pilfered my mum's sewing box and made this Picture. Itried to decorate the background with a few things like threads and tape measure but it's a little bit to unsharp.

I wish everyone a wonderful start into the new week and a happy Macro Monday :-)
