Unity. A sculpture by Simon Hitchens taken near the Kings Cross Goods Yard. London.

The redevelopment of the former Kings Cross Goods Yard now known as Kings Cross Central, owes much of its appeal to the proud industrial heritage which formed it. This graphic sculture visually references the heavy engineering used in the area’s industrial past, it’s form suggestive of two large and redundant cogged wheels. The granite element symbolises the robust building materials used in the old Goods Yard, where commodities were moved about by rail and cart. The more technologically challenging blue resin element hints both at the Regents Canal and the important part it played in the transport of goods, but also the aspirational state of the art future being built at Kings cross Central.

The Simple graphic form of the sculpture can be seen as a stylised letter X (when viewed as a whole), but also articulates the unity between two separate yet co-dependant bodies: a balance of essential opposites and a celebration of progress across generations.

this picture represents unity I believe because it shows the unification between family. also it highlights their differences yet how they are bound together. their clothing as well as the tone of the photo I think work to show unity as well as the fact that they are all connected physically.

Unity Hall was constructed in 1887 at 3140 S. Indiana Ave. for the Lakeside Club, a Jewish social organization. It became the home of Cong. Oscar DePriest's Peoples Movement Club in 1917, Churches have occupied the building since the 1950s.

This corner lot on Northeast Martin Luther King Boulevard at Shaver St. is on track to become a soul food cart court and an education center where youth can learn about Black History.

The site is the former home of The Burger Barn, which hit the headlines in 1981 when two Portland police officers tossed four dead possums into its doorway, sparking outrage and protests in the Black community. And the possum incident is not the site’s only claim to historical importance…

Owner Andre Raiford said he is happy for the site to become a resource for the community.

The building is set to be renovated and renamed the Common Unity Resource Building. Stocked with archive materials and examples of historic preservation the building will expose students to careers in historic preservation, construction and the STEM disciplines, says Teressa Raiford.

Along with Cathy Galbraith, executive director of the Bosco-Milligan Foundation, Teressa has been working to find grants and other funding for the project. She says she plans to crowdfund some of the money needed through a Kickstarter page. Livermore architects have volunteered to work on the design, which will include shrubs and greenery to shield the eating and meeting area from busy Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

There is unity in this bulletin board outside of my RA's door. It mentions where she is by using a map from Lord of the Rings and the use of only three colors on the entire board in contrast to the complex design make it unified.
