Jedburgh Abbey is one of the 4 major abbeys of the Scottish Borders that were built in the 12th century. The abbey was founded in 1138 by King David I of Scotland for Augustinian monks. With Jedburgh, David was also aiming to show to his English neighbours that he could match any grand building in England. The proximity to the English Border meant also that the abbey was badly damaged and rebuilt several times during the Wars of Independence.
The abbey was attacked at least eight times in the 15th and 16th centuries before falling victim – like so many others of its time – to the Reformation.
The architecture is a mix of Romanesque and early Gothic architecture.

As a German, I'm not used to such memorials for the victorious soldiers of wars past. Obviously, the Brits have another history.

I have such a backlog of photos to get through right now, it was hard to pick one for today.
Handheld. Very slightly cropped. Not HDR.
The weirdest part of this photo is that it was taken at the end of summer, despite looking like late fall or mid winter. I plan to return here at the first snowfall. Pretty crazy little spot, isn't it?

We visited the Cabo Verde island Santiago for a tour of one week. One of the nicest places is the beach of the village Tarrafal. Every day fishermen go out in the night and come back in the morning. United manpower is required to get their boats on the shore. Colorful people and colorful boats. Cabo Verde, 2024.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for your support, views, faves and comments!
