Meeting to encourage parties to ratify the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.
The amendment is a historic achievement in addressing climate change and will phase out dangerous chemicals known as HFCs which cause global warming. The implementation of the Kigali Amendment is expected to avoid up to half a degree Celsius of global warming by the end of the century.

A delegation from Rwanda is attending the 74th United Nations General Assembly in New York. With a strong focus on climate change this year's UNGA will also include the UN Secretary-General's Climate Action Summit. A delegation from the Environment and Natural Resources Sector led by Minister Biruta is in New York for the General Assembly and a number of other bilateral meetings and side events.
