Kinderdijk is a village in the Netherlands, belonging to the municipality of Molenwaard, in the province South Holland, about 15 km east of Rotterdam. Kinderdijk is situated in a polder in the Alblasserwaard. To drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands. The windmills of Kinderdijk are one of the best known Dutch tourist sites. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

The Grote Markt ("Great Market Square") of Antwerp is a town square situated in the heart of the old city quarter. It is filled with an extravagant city hall, numerous elaborate 16th century guildhalls, many restaurants and cafés. Lying within walking distance of the Scheldt river, it hosts a Christmas market and ice rink in winter.
The City Hall (Dutch: Stadhuis of Antwerp), stands on the western side of Antwerp's Grote Markt ("Great Market Square").
Erected between 1561 and 1565 after designs made by Cornelis Floris de Vriendt and several other architects and artists, this Renaissance building incorporates both Flemish and Italian influences. The Stadhuis is listed as one of the Belfries of Belgium and France, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sigiriya is truly unique not only for its remaining ruins, but also for its stunning location.
The palace ruins on the summit of Sigiriya rock consist of several massive brick walls and pools, which were carved into the solid rock, and the sheer drop-offs on any side of the summit offer panoramic views in all directions.
The entry to the summit leads through massive Lion's claws which are the remains of what was once a much larger structure. In ancient times, the stairway lead straight into the mouth of a lion, and the name Sigiriya, which literally means Lions Rock, stems from this impressive monument.

The Chinguetti Mosque is a mosque in Chinguetti, Mauritania. It was an ancient center of worship created by the founders of the oasis city of Chinguetti in the Adrar region of Mauritania in the thirteenth or fourteenth century. The minaret of this ancient structure is supposed to be the second oldest in continuous use anywhere in the Muslim world.
In the 1970s the mosque was restored through a UNESCO effort, but it, along with the city itself, continues to be threatened by intense desertification.
In 1996 the old town of Chinguetti was added to the Unesco world heritage list, together with the old towns of Ouadane, Tichitt and Oualata.
In Sunni Islam, Chinguetti is generally regarded as the 7th holy city.

ENG: The Bode Museum, opened in 1904 as the Kaiser Friedrich Museum, is part of the Museum Island ensemble in Berlin and thus a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It houses the Sculpture Collection, the Museum of Byzantine Art and the Numismatic Collection. It was reopened on 17 October 2006 after almost six years of renovation and opened to the public on 19 October of the same year.
The Bode-Museum became doubtfully well-known during the night of 27 March 2017, when a "Big Maple Leaf Gold Coin" weighing around 100 kg was stolen from the exhibition. This loan from a private owner had a face value of around 1.0 million Canadian dollars, the material value at the time of the crime was around 3.8 million euros. The gold coin and the perpetrators have since disappeared and the coin was most likely melted down.

Diese Leihgabe eines privaten Eigentümers hatte einen Nennwert von rund 1,0 Million kanadische Dollar, der Materialwert zum Tatzeitpunkt rund 3,8 Millionen Euro. Die Goldmünze sowie die Täter sind seitdem verschwunden und die Münze wurde aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach eingeschmolzen.

Unesco is his name and he is the dominant male of the group of Califonia sea lions at our zoo. He is one of those animals everybody knows. :)
A few weeks ago, I posted a picture of church cottages in northern Sweden. These are also church cottages, where parishioners spend the night before or after church on Sunday if the distance is too big for them to travel there and back within a day. Here in Luleå, Gammelstad Kyrkbu is the largest collection and therefore also on the Unesco world heritage list.
What are you grateful for? For me it's inner peace, going out on photography trips, travel to far away places, supportive family and friends, and a steady income.
In December 2016 we spent two nights in the historical Shirakawa-go village, located in the mountains of the Gifu Prefecture in Japan. Shirakawa-gō (白川郷, "White River Old District") is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Taking photos in the rain is fun, as with this one.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from two RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Les pierres tombales des moines pavent le pourtour de ce cloître du 15e siècle situé au pied de la Charola et qui fut le premier des 6 cloîtres du couvent du Christ.
Au sommet de la butte qui domine la ville, des murailles du 12e siècle enferment les bâtiments du couvent du Christ, fondé en 1162 par Gualdim Pais, le Grand maître des Templiers, et dont la construction s'est poursuivie du 12e au 17e siècle, offrant ainsi des témoignages des moines-chevaliers et de l'ordre du Christ qui leur succéda en 1319, après la chute des Templiers (dont l'ordre est dissolu en 1312 par le pape Clément V). C'est donc un véritable musée de l'architecture portugaise où se mêlent les styles roman, gothique, manuélin, Renaissance. La Rotonde des Templiers et la splendide Fenêtre manuéline du couvent en sont les éléments les plus remarquables.
Fondée en 1157 sur les rives de la rivière Nabão, par Gualdim Pais, le premier Grand maître de l'Ordre des Templiers au Portugal, la ville de Tomar s'étend au pied d'une colline boisée que coiffe un château fort du 12e siècle construit justement par l'ordre des Templiers. Le château abrite le Convento de Cristo (couvent du Christ), un joyau classé depuis 1983 au Patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco (WHL-265). Il est l'emblème de l'histoire portugaise et le symbole de l'Occident chrétien. La vieille ville tranquille, aux maisons blanches et aux ruelles rectilignes, mérite également une visite.
Tous les 2 ou 3 ans, la ville organise sur la Praça da Republica une manifestation populaire de renom, la fête "Festa des Tabuleiros". Lors de cette fête d'origine païenne célébrée en juillet, des jeunes filles vêtues de blancs portent sur la tête des plateaux où sont empilés des pains et des fleurs.
