This is in Great Falls National Park, Virginia. The falls are spread out over miles. This is the Potomac River. I believe one of the trails and scenic overlooks is wheelchair accessible. I'm not positive on that though. There are three of them but they're all basically the same. They are right next to each other. The falls parallel the C&O Canal (Maryland side) which has a bike / jogging trail which is a couple hundred miles long with B&B's along the way for several day bike journeys. Kayaking is also allowed on certain parts of the river. Many get rescued and some drown each year. We had a week of nothing but rain and cold and wind. I wish we could have sent some of this rain out west to stop the fires. The Great Lakes are at an all time high and the beaches are vanishing. One beach here closed when several people drowned in the strong undertow. I thought this photo of drenched Izzy the fox was appropriate, and yes, that is my bike in the background. :). Now the sun and sky are obscured with smoke all the way from the west coast.

The black sand beaches of Kirkjufjara near Dyrhólaey are some of the most dangerous in Iceland with collapsing cliff rocks, strong sand-blasting winds, tall waves, and powerful undertows. It is often the most perilous places in the world though that offer incredible beauty, and here on this dangerous beach the waves crashing loud and hard against the craggy volcanic rocks were mesmerizing to me. I was careful to keep my distance from the water that our local guide warned had washed away and killed a tourist in the area just a few weeks back. The images I came away with were quite interesting and left me inspired for further Icelandic adventures.

Tayrona National Natural Park - This park is a protected area along Colombia's northern Caribbean shores. Along with it's beautiful blue water are mountainous hiking trails up to the ruins of Pueblito. The ruins were built by the Tayrona civilization.

These Caribbean waters are very turbulent in many places. On one of the days that I was there, a swimmer got pulled out by current undertows. It was touch and go for this guy for several hours. Everyone watched in horror as several rescue attempts were made. Eventually a jet ski pulled him out. Exhausted and freaked out he never got in the water again.

No motorized vehicles are allowed so you have to hike in with all of your camping gear or have supplies carried in by horses

Down and damp with the crashing waves.... relatively safe, with one eye out for a rogue wave... so beautiful and exciting... and then just a moment of light on the beach and a breaking wave...
