The June full moon is sometimes called the Strawberry moon, according to the Farmer's Almanac, which says the nickname is connected to strawberries ripening in certain parts of North America. It's not a reference to the colour of the moon. However, you may still get lucky with the moon's hue. Towards the end of June, the moon usually sits in a lower position in the sky and shines through more of our atmosphere. Because of this, our moon can sometimes give off a pinkish hue. 63954
Our last Blue Moon came on the night of Halloween, 2020. That night, the Blue Moon was near red Mars. But that full moon – like most Blue Moons – was blue in name only. We called it a Blue Moon because it was the second of two full moons in a calendar month. Now another sort of Blue Moon is coming up. It’s a seasonal Blue Moon, the third of four full moons in a season (the time between a solstice and an equinox). The upcoming Blue Moon will crest on August 21-22, 2021. And, by lucky coincidence, the moon will be near planets again, this time Jupiter and Saturn. 67332
... The very purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticize others. Rather, we must criticize ourselves. How much am I doing about my anger? About my attachment, about my hatred, about my pride, my jealousy?...

I hope that this photograph answers the question that was posed on the internet: "I'm looking for a compact camera and I am looking at the Lumix DMC-TZ80. Now reading reviews online are giving me mixed feelings. I see a lot of comments about how it takes bad pictures... So the question is, is it the camera or just the way people are using it?"
This is an uncropped zoom shot from the Lumix DMC-TZ80. I doubt I could have achieved a better result even with my 45.7 MP Nikon D850. And this compact camera has 18 MP. So you see, it's not about the sensor size or the specs of a particular camera. It is all about the light and composition.
The “Rhein in Flammen” show watched from a boat … a fantastic experience. The sound reflected by the very close hills on both sides of the river. Just imagine, what size this one was as an uncropped wide angle shot!
Unlike most pics that I regularly see on Hong Kong's popular Symphony of Lights laser show, this one is different as the heavy storm clouds persistently blanketed the skies. We could hardly see the laser beams because of the torrential rain and the overcast conditions. Still, there is no want of colors in the harbor which enveigle just about everyone.

When the sun shines on these the tree looks quite red. The first time I saw them I thought the tree was diseased but a few days later they were releasing loads of pollen.
Going through some shots from last fall that I hadn't processed and this one caught my eye. I decided to leave it uncropped because of the nice scenery.
The genus Pan consists of two extant species: the common chimpanzee and the bonobo. Taxonomically, these two ape species are collectively termed panins; however, both species are more commonly referred to collectively using the generalized term chimpanzees, or chimps. Together with humans, gorillas, and orangutans they are part of the family Hominidae (the great apes, or hominids). Native to sub-Saharan Africa, common chimpanzees and bonobos are currently both found in the Congo jungle, while only the common chimpanzee is also found further north in West Africa. Both species are listed as endangered. Chimpanzees and bonobos are equally humanity's closest living relatives. As such, they are among the largest-brained and most intelligent primates: they use a variety of sophisticated tools and construct elaborate sleeping nests each night from branches and foliage. Their learning abilities have been extensively studied. 60741
I very rarely take a wildlife shot where I don't need to crop it in some way - either to better frame the subject or remove some unwanted part of the scene - but I think this is one of them.
Barn Owl hunting over the meadow in the early morning sun.
Taken in Norfolk.
Quickly moving from birds-in-flight to a not-quite-so-slow lizard, I still had short exposure time set, little time to get down to eye level and only few shots to capture the monitor. To my surprise, this high ISO version turned out quite acceptable. Slightly denoised with Lightroom and uncropped.

A cockatoo is any of the 21 parrot species belonging to the family Cacatuidae, the only family in the superfamily Cacatuoidea. Along with the Psittacoidea (true parrots) and the Strigopoidea (large New Zealand parrots), they make up the order Psittaciformes. The family has a mainly Australasian distribution, ranging from the Philippines and the eastern Indonesian islands of Wallacea to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia. Cockatoos are recognisable by the prominent crests and curved bills. Their plumage is generally less colourful than that of other parrots, being mainly white, grey or black and often with coloured features in the crest, cheeks or tail. On average they are larger than other parrots; however, the cockatiel, the smallest cockatoo species, is a small bird. Cockatoos prefer to eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers and insects. They often feed in large flocks, particularly when ground-feeding. Cockatoos are monogamous and nest in tree hollows. Some cockatoo species have been adversely affected by habitat loss, particularly from a shortage of suitable nesting hollows after large mature trees are cleared; conversely, some species have adapted well to human changes and are considered agricultural pests. The blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra), also known as the Indian antelope, is an antelope native to India and Nepal. It inhabits grassy plains and lightly forested areas with perennial water sources. It stands up to 74 to 84 cm (29 to 33 in) high at the shoulder. Males weigh 20–57 kg (44–126 lb), with an average of 38 kg (84 lb). Females are lighter, weighing 20–33 kg (44–73 lb) or 27 kg (60 lb) on average. Males have 35–75 cm (14–30 in) long, ringed horns, though females may develop horns as well. The white fur on the chin and around the eyes is in sharp contrast with the black stripes on the face. The coats of males show a two-tone colouration; while the upper parts and outsides of the legs are dark brown to black, the underparts and the insides of the legs are white. Females and juveniles are yellowish fawn to tan. The blackbuck is the sole living member of the genus Antilope and was scientifically described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. Two subspecies are recognized. The antelope is native to and found mainly in India, while it is locally extinct in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Formerly widespread, only small, scattered herds are seen today, largely confined to protected areas. During the 20th century, blackbuck numbers declined sharply due to excessive hunting, deforestation, and habitat degradation. The blackbuck has been introduced in Argentina and the United States. In India, hunting of blackbuck is prohibited under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. The blackbuck has significance in Hinduism; Indian and Nepali villagers do not harm the antelope. I got more owl shots, but I need a brake. After Minnesota, off to Florida we went- grand kids and meeting Flickr friends were on the agenda. And some birds. This bird was photographed from the car at close range. View large- hit "L" than "Z" twice.
► █░▓ А MINUTE after the full sunrise, a huge elongated flock of larger bird species is intersecting the spiral contrail of a commercial flight miles away. This track looks almost like a slow lightning hitting the tip of the rod at the roof of nearby Johannes Kerk. Interestingly, this protestant denomination not only omits the Cross at the top of its tower, but also leaves out the adjective "saint" before the John's name. Saint John is otherwise also known as The Forerunner, The Prophet, and The Baptist. But, this could also be Saint John the Theologian? This way, we don't know.
Seemingly 'next' left to this church tower, at a distance of 2 km (twice as far!) from the lens lies the windmill Nooit Volmaakt, (i.e. 'Never Completed'). The focal length is responsible for the considerable perspective flattening which defies perception. You would think that the distance between them is 100-200 metres.
While photographing this, I was aware that I have to choose – focus either on the church tower, or on the contrail. Alas, I chose the former. Only later, enlarged 200% over the computer screen did I see the elongated row of our avian friends. The next snapshot I did over half a minute, this time focussing on the contrail. Too late. The feathered procession was gone!
Lumix G9 / Leica 100-400mm f4.0-6.3 zoomed to 300 mm (600 mm full-frame equivalent). Overexposed ⅔ of a stop. Handheld with support. Aperture priority f/9 resulting in 1/25 of a sec, ISO fixed at 200 (a big mistake! With ISO 800 and aperture 7.1 I would have obtained 1/150 or 1/200 that would have 'frozen' the bird flight much much better). AWB manual, picture profile 'Vivid'. Highlight/Shadow –5/+5. Sooc jpeg edited in Photos 10.0, +filter „Vivid Warm" applied 48% for better mids and color balance. Uncompressed, uncropped 4×3 original format.
