Our last Blue Moon came on the night of Halloween, 2020. That night, the Blue Moon was near red Mars. But that full moon – like most Blue Moons – was blue in name only. We called it a Blue Moon because it was the second of two full moons in a calendar month. Now another sort of Blue Moon is coming up. It’s a seasonal Blue Moon, the third of four full moons in a season (the time between a solstice and an equinox). The upcoming Blue Moon will crest on August 21-22, 2021. And, by lucky coincidence, the moon will be near planets again, this time Jupiter and Saturn. 67332

Uncropped Image.

Image not "Photoshopped". The giraffe was simply in the way, so became part of the capture.

It is still dry season and the animals get a bit of a food supplement in the veld.

They are not tame, but roam wild on about 450 Ha.

... The very purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticize others. Rather, we must criticize ourselves. How much am I doing about my anger? About my attachment, about my hatred, about my pride, my jealousy?...

Had an amazing morning at the beach. The shore was covered in birds migrating. So many it was tough getting an uncluttered shot. I spotted this Adult Peregrine Falcon way out in the distance and waited till it got closer. It did and this shot is uncropped. I check my lens and it was just short of 30 feet away. I got shots of two adults today. I think this is the same one Bob and Judy got the other day and Lynne got a few years back. It is registered in Wildwood, NJ

Stone Harbor Point, NJ.

I heard a cacophony of noise from a flock of crows that were landing on and flitting about the pine tree in the adjacent lot. Shortly afterwards, the hawk flew into view and I realized why the crows were so upset. I believe it's the Red-Shouldered Hawk.

I very rarely take a wildlife shot where I don't need to crop it in some way - either to better frame the subject or remove some unwanted part of the scene - but I think this is one of them.

Hello my Flickr friends and a summery shot to lift my autumnal spirits, I would load a seasonal shot but I have technical issues so here's one uncropped from a walk around Filey Country Park a year ago.

Prematurely pink - all the other Trilliums in Central Park are still white.

This is Peablue or long-tailed blue (Lampides boeticus)

The meerkat (Suricata suricatta) or suricate is a small carnivoran in the mongoose family. It is the only member of the genus Suricata. Meerkats live in all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a mob, gang or clan. A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats, but some super-families have 50 or more members. In captivity, meerkats have an average life span of 12–14 years, and about 6–7 years in the wild. Meerkats are primarily insectivores, but also eat other animals (lizards, snakes, scorpions, spiders, eggs, small mammals, millipedes, centipedes and, more rarely, small birds), plants and fungi. Meerkats are immune to certain types of venom, including the very strong venom of the scorpions of the Kalahari Desert. A meerkat has the ability to dig through a quantity of sand equal to its own weight in just seconds. Digging is done to create burrows, to get food and also to create dust clouds to distract predators. R_9342

Low shows are great except for the low light levels.

I got more owl shots, but I need a brake. After Minnesota, off to Florida we went- grand kids and meeting Flickr friends were on the agenda. And some birds. This bird was photographed from the car at close range. View large- hit "L" than "Z" twice.

It was big. Not sure if it's called "harvest moon" in Suriname :)
