Soaked, another shot from the 10m tide we had here in Porthcawl this morning. I made a point a few weeks back about one of the unseen dangers of photographing in a coastal storm and that was debris being chucked up with the waves. If you look closely at the people in this shot you can see a number of sticks/wood being brought up with the waves.
We are approaching the traditional end of the harvest season of the old agricultural year and entering into the dark half of the year. At the time of this last harvest, also known as Samhain or Halloween, the hedgerows and trees are bursting with edible fruits, nuts and berries. I've collected just a small selection here for a seasonal still life. Hawthorn, Rosehips, Sweet Chestnuts, Crabapples, Wildings (apples sprouted from discarded apple-cores, often crossed with Crabapples), hazelnuts, acorns (edible if correctly processed), blackberries and Sloes. Cornish clotted cream, fresh scones and strawberry jam served with Earl Grey tea. This shot was an unbelievable nightmare to set up — from sorting out the composition and lighting to getting the table linen straight (and crease free)! Even the silverware needed much polishing. More baking fun this wild and windy autumn afternoon. Two different sizes of cupcake and two-tone chocolate and coffee icings. Decided to colour tone with a complementary blend of pink rosebuds and azure espresso cups to contrast with the rich luscious browns of the chocolate. In the absence of any mushrooms to photograph, and with horrible weather, I decided it was time for a bit of baking — and food photography! A very simple (and delicious) crumble, made with harvested apples and the last of the year's blackberries. Photographed, on a tripod, with a 50mm lens at F2.8 for shallow depth of field; the focus was locked on the back of the crumble. I've always been fascinated by geometrical by buildings geometry. And the Medersa in Marrakesh is just another beautiful building in this ancient and fascinating city.
When I was visiting the Medersa in 2010 I spent probably 15 minutes, trying to center this image and I'm still not sure if I did it.
I shot this with my Nikon D3000. It was a bright day (like any other day I spent in Marrakesh!) and I was in auto-mode.
