KOLKATA is cleaning up its act. It has changed in 20 years. Lost some of its photogenicity
but some folks like change. I think stopping the RICKSHAW WALLAHS from working certain areas is disgraceful. These men have no other way of making income.
They are human horses and work harder than most human beings.

I left the cremation ghats and came upon this local doing
Japa Yoga repeating his mantra over and over and over and over .........................
Locals were boating in this filthy river that runs thru DELHI.
He was reciting the Gita, doing Japa
praying for serenity and peace

named TALI NULA...................................
That royally REEKS of every human excretion, and yet
yes and even so.......................
locals wash, bathe, swim, shit, piss, spit, shampoo, as dying
carcasses float by.
VULTURES in abundance were here in the early 90's. I was lucky to shoot them. They are dying off all over INDIA. Such amazing creatures, metaphors for everything that goes on in this great city called
KOLKATA.
