This is a small project I decided to create just for myself using Soraya font I found on the interwebs. Immediately when I saw this font it reminded me of the Futurism movement I learned about in my art history classes.

Project for Typography & Design class. These were a set of 4 11x17" posters, of which we were to choose two for the final, print and mount them. Made in Indesign cs6.

This was the "Concert" poster, where we were to design a poster as if it were to advertise a concert for our favorite artist.

(Edit: ignore bleed showing on top left corner ... these were to be flush mounted, lol)

I thought I would do a "They Live" poster that combined the OBEY messages and the famous quote. I found a couple of fonts that were close to what they used, but decided to use Nevis.

For the next couple of posters, I am going to trying another approach, with having a simple saying/text with a very grunge/destructive approach. I am doing to mainly go the opposite route that I would normally take with being very clean.

Researched and wrote a report on the Trajan font which then was incorporated in to the poster. The colosseum was where fights, theater, well in other words where people went for entertainment during Roman Times. Since this font is used in movie titles and posters, I designed the poster announcing an event.

* A bit of info from my research on the Trajan font:

The Trajan Column inscription is said to be the first Trajan typeface. The Trajan column was constructed by the Senate and the Roman citizens to honor the wars of the Roman Emperor Marcus Ulpius Traianus (53 AD - 117 AD). For the next 2,000 years, the lettering on the Trajan Column and other similar lettering of the time would shape the Roman alphabet and encourage typeface design. The Trajan Column lettering has inspired many typeface designers throughout the years to simulate the Trajan Column lettering.

*The inscriptions’ lettering at the base of the column shows the stately writing that differed from the everyday handwriting of the Romans. The Romans did not invent the alphabet but were the first to put serifs on the alphabet. What these ancient times did leave was a great replica that would have an influence for the next 2000 years on the Roman alphabet. The capital letters in the alphabet used today went through many changes; such as characters added or deleted, depending on what the various users needed. It was not until about 750 AD that the lowercase evolved.

* Twombly a calligrapher and typeface designer, worked for the Adobe Originals team where she designed many typefaces, to include Trajan. Inspired by the chiseled inscriptions of the Trajan Column, Carol Twombly designed the font to include numbers and punctuations, as well as a bold version of Trajan.

*Since Trajan is only an all caps alphabet, it should not be used for body copy because it is harder to read all caps in a paragraph as well as in small point size. It looks best as display copy since the typeface is all caps, at eighteen points and up. This is why one sees it in movie posters, billboards, bookcovers, CDs, and movie and magazine titles.

....and another one. For this one, I made a digital poster out of an older project that I created in my screenprinting class. I have been a big fan of the 00 since I was little and wanted to something special. I originally had just simple text image in my older project (you can find it in my screenprinting set on Flickr). I wanted to include a 60'ish style into it thought. So I thought I would imitate the famous Saul Bass posters.

Have not done a poster in a while and remember hearing this quote from the movie Speed. Thought it would make for a good poster.
