It Comes in Waves (2025) by Ben Johnston invites viewers to reflect on water as both a connector and a force of change. The scattered yellow letters rise and fall with the currents of Lake Ontario, mirroring the transient, rhythmic nature of emotion, memory, and time.
Installed along Toronto’s Harbourfront, the work transforms the lake’s surface into a shifting landscape of language and reflection—where words become part of the water’s movement, arriving and receding like waves themselves.
Commissioned by Waterfront Toronto.
Captured October 2025.
📍 Location: Harbour Square Park, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Large sculptural letter blocks spell out BODØ in front of a modern cultural building, photographed in stark black and white.
The minimalist design turns language into architecture, where typography becomes a physical part of the urban landscape.
As European Capital of Culture, Bodø presents itself not just through events and programs, but through form, space, and visual identity — a city that can quite literally be read.
Fun fact: Did you know that Ø is one of the few letters in the Latin alphabet that immediately identifies a Nordic language — making BODØ instantly recognizable far beyond Norway?
