A duo of so-called Indian blanket wildflowers (Gaillardia pulchella) in the dunes.

▶ "Gaillardia pulchella —aka Indian Blanket, Indian Blanketflower, Firewheel— is in the sunflower family (Asteraceae), native to much of the continental United States.
Its ray flower blossoms are about 2.5 inches across, with yellow tips and red bases; the red frequently grades from an orange-red near the yellow tips. There may be up to 100 disk flowers that are brownish-red."

▶ "Gaillardia pulchella is a hardy plant, not picky about soil, though sandy and well-drained are best. It has a high drought tolerance and does best with a dry, hot climate in full sun."

👎 Rejection.
An administrator for a Flickr group entitled FLOWERS rejected this image out of hand, stating as requirements: "We are looking for quality, sharp photos OF flowers, not simply photos WITH flowers"). How did this image 'violate' those strictures? Capricious nonsense!
