The Penis Shrine, otherwise known by its real name the Chao Mae Tuptim Shrine, is hidden away in Nai Lert Park next to the hotel of the same name, the Nai Lert Park Hotel (used to be the Hilton Hotel). The shrine was originally dedicated to Chao Tuptim, a female animist spirit who people
believe has been residing in the banyan tree next to the shrine for hundreds of years.
Years ago though, a woman came to pray at the shrine asking for help from Chao Tuptim because she couldn't conceive. Nine months later, she gave birth to a healthy son. She was so pleased with her child that she came back to the shrine and left a large wooden carving of a giant penis in thanks. Others followed her lead and today, if you visit, you will see literally hundreds of wooden penises, all different colors and sizes. Some have colorful pieces of fabric tied around them to protect them. Others are dyed red, blue or green. But all of them give off the same message. Offer up a penis to the shrine, and you too can witness the miracle of conception.
Apparently, the Nai Lert Park Hotel has been quite dismayed about having the shrine on their doorstep and having tourists trooping through their hotel to get to it. So they have tried to stop access to the shrine, by dissuading tourists from walking through the hotel. It is still accessible, however, from the back of the hotel and is such an interesting shrine; it would be a pity to miss it. Unlike other shrines in Bangkok, it is also very quiet, so most of the time you will find yourself alone there, able to pray or give things to Chao Tuptim without being disturbed. It's also very pretty in the park away from the pollution and traffic of downtown Bangkok.

When in San Francisco this past week, I took a visit to the Presidio Pet Cemetery. It's a bit rundown, but there is a conservation plan in place to carefully restore it. I've been here 3-4 times over the years, and it's always a moving experience.
From the Presidio website: "Princess Tuptim, Cupcake, Wiggles. The Presidio Pet Cemetery is the final napping place for hundreds of furry, scaly, and feathered companions who faithfully served the military families who lived at the Presidio when it was an Army post. Before their deaths, cherished pets like Skipper, "The best damn dog we ever had," brought stability and levity to a life that included frequent moves and oftentimes the threat of war. What better way to honor that role than a permanent half-acre hillside plot with a view of San Francisco Bay and a solemn, hand-lettered sign that reads, "The love these animals gave will never be forgotten."

Here's a picture (which I took about two weeks ago) of most of the Disney and Non-Disney leading ladies and a few a their "costars" in their doll form.
Behold the Phallus!
Well, of course, it's a guy thing but still, I think it is a quite lovely shrine....
Tucked away in a corner of the Bangkok Hilton Hotel, near the pool, behind lots of shrubbery, and a barely defined path, is a centuries old shrine to male testosterone, male self definition and fertility.....as I understand it, when the Hilton Hotel built on the site they had to respect and protect what is a historically/culturally protected site. There are no signs to guide you to it (god forbid a good christian family should stumble into it with their kiddies in tow [kiddies, which, after all, are hopefully the result of a proud and erect phallus doing its thing]) but it is a quite an amazing site with perhaps seven or eight dozen small, medium and super large phallus(ses), some four foot long, the object of adoration. Festooned with ribbons, incense and candles they await adoration and....well, satisfaction. Forget Viagra...I lit a candle, fell to my knees and hoped for the best.

Darryl F. Zanuck Presents
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s
“The King and I” starring Deborah Kerr, Yul Brynner with Rita Moreno, Martin Benson, Rex Thompson
Produced by Charles Brackett, Directed by Walter Lang, Screenplay by Ernest Lehman.
Music by Richard Rodgers and Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
The New Cinemascope 55 Picture in Eastman Color from 20th Century-Fox
The screenplay is based on the 1944 novel “Anna and the King of Siam” by Margaret Landon. That novel in turn was based on memoirs written by Anna Leonowens, who became school teacher to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860s. Leonowens’ stories were autobiographical, although various elements of them have been called into question.
The film was a critical and commercial success, and was nominated for 9 Oscars, winning 5, including Best Actor for Brynner. Here is the movie trailer:

a very hungry pair..no one ate breakfast,we all rushed out for lunch hehe...
Today I bought an awesome Iron Man helmet mask, a beautiful Mattel Rapunzel (finally, after leaving numerous Rapunzels behind on previous visits), a Tuptim doll from 'The King And I" (with half of her original outfit) and a fantastic vintage Barbie with rooted lashes!
This is a picture of my "The King and I" Prince of Siam doll my mom bought At TRU for me went the movie came out. As you can see the box still has the price tag. LOL! I'm still kicking myself for not getting the Tuptim doll.

Today I was at an estate sale when I found these three lovelies. they were a "King And I" Singing Tuptim doll and these three Mattel (European versions) Peter pan dolls. I'm glad to finally have Peter and Wendy for my Disney Doll Collection and since I'm not a fan of Tinkerbell I'll probably end up selling her.

Want to see a penis so big it has legs? Then visit the shrine to fertility goddess Jao Mae Tuptim where worshippers lay down phalluses of all shapes and sizes. Legs are added to the offerings so the good fortune travels with you. Literally hundreds of penises or rather phallus statue or statuettes from small wooden carvings to big stone sculptures that stand ten feet tall and decorated with ribbons - make this shrine quite unique. Women visit this shrine when they are trying to conceive, leaving offerings of lotus and jasmine. Originally this was just a typical spirit house on the Nai Lert park property under a large ficus tree.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: This wave of Sportz Bratz dolls was one of the last lines I saw in stores when I was collecting dolls growing up. By the end of 2005, I banned myself from purchasing anymore dolls. In an attempt to "grow up" I thought I had to leave my love for dolls behind. Clearly, my passion was not that easy to stow away, because here I am as an adult, with 2,800 plus dolls. I have a very special place in my heart for these Sportz dolls though, because they remind me of some of the last times I enjoyed dolls when I was a kid. I especially remember the day that I first acquainted myself with them. Target had put out a new stock of Bratz, which included the Sportz and i Candy lines. I was blown away by the concept of a "basic" Bratz doll. Before that time, all Bratz were pretty much sold with spare outfits and lots of accessories. It was a culture shock seeing Bratz dolls branching out and being sold in more simplified forms. Dad let me buy Sasha that day--I'm not sure if she was my last childhood Bratz, or if my Bratz Collector's Edition pack dolls were. Either way, due to this lasting memory, I was determined to get my hands on all the Sportz dolls from this wave. Cloe was actually my second one if I'm not mistaken. We were at a large indoor flea market one Sunday afternoon, during the summer of 2011, with Dad. Outside this flea market were tons of sellers, due to the beautiful weather. Cloe was on a table, still boxed, with an also packaged Style It! Yasmin. I was delighted to find Cloe, and boxed no less! I pondered whether or not I should get Yasmin too, but I ended up only taking Cloe home. Sadly, when I was opening her up to put with Sasha on display, I realized that one of her braids had little cuts all the way up it. I'm not sure if this was my fault--perhaps the scissors I was using nicked her hair. But I've always had the inclination that this was something that happened by accident in the factory. Basically, when the day comes that I have to undo her braid, a lot of the hair will come out. I have always loved her anyways, and I'll never stop appreciating the fact that she was one of my first boxed Bratz!
Since my first Cloe had some sort of hair issue, I was eager to adopt a second. I found my girl, on the right of this photo, during the spring of 2013. It was the opening day of the season that year, and pickings were slim. The only dolls at the flea market were all lumped together in a large container. Most of them were nude--which made Cloe stand out. She was wearing her complete outfit, sans shoes. Originally, Colleen and I were only going to buy a few dolls. So, naturally I bought Cloe, Tuptim, the brunette Paint 'N Dazzle Barbie, and I think one or two other dolls. But we ended up circling back and buying the entire lot for around $20. Technically, Cloe was part of the "60 Doll bin" even though I did purchase her about ten minutes prior to the rest of the dolls. She's such a sweetie, and despite the fact that she was secondhand, her hair is in better condition than my first. I love having not just one, but two Groovin' Golf! Cloe dolls on my display!
