Il germano reale è un uccello della famiglia degli Anatidae noto in Italia anche come capoverde. Viene considerato il capostipite della maggior parte delle razze domestiche dell'anatra, ad eccezione di quelle derivate dall'anatra muta o muschiata e gli incroci zootecnici avvenuti con quest'ultima.
