The winter hasn't been particularly cold so far where I live in Northern Illinois. But we've had a lot of dreary, sunless days with very little snow to brighten things up, and most of the vegetation, of course, is wearing a shade of brown. So I thought I'd mix things up today with some sunshine, summer color and a glimpse of warm weather yard work, and with a touch of Dutch angle too for a bit of added pizzaz.

The contract brush cutter on the New Hampshire Northcoast is just about finished clearing the main line, this combined with some additional efforts by a certain employee have made the Union Meadows causeway look as good this spring as it probably has since construction of the railroad! Up until relatively recent times this causeway had high brush and trees growing on it, making it completely unshootable. With the freshly rebuilt GP38-2 back on the train this week, albeit in the middle of the consist, combined with decent weather it was a good time to shoot the causeway before the brush starts creeping back up. With 2 loads for Rochester and 25 loads for Boston the three units are having no trouble making track speed despite a late start from Ossipee.

A couple of years ago, this eucalyptus tree and several others were trimmed way back. We could see the sky again.
Now, almost two years later, they are back, big and bushy, though not as tall, and providing shade again.
While that's nice and all, I just like this shot.

“Lost Stars”
(Song by Adam Levine)
.
Please don't see just a boy caught up in dreams and fantasies
Please see me reaching out for someone I can't see
Take my hand let's see where we wake up tomorrow
Best laid plans sometimes are just a one night stand
I'd be damned Cupid's demanding back his arrow
So let's get drunk on our tears and
.
God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
.
Who are we? Just a speck of dust within the galaxy?
Woe is me, if we're not careful turns into reality
Don't you dare let our best memories bring you sorrow
Yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer
Turn the page maybe we'll find a brand new ending
Where we're dancing in our tears and
.
God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
.
I thought I saw you out there crying
I thought I heard you call my name
I thought I heard you out there crying
Just the same
.
God, give us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and this lamb is on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
.
I thought I saw you out there crying
I thought I heard you call my name
I thought I heard you out there crying
.
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
