On September 23, 2008, Montana Rail Link’s Polson local crosses the wood trestle at Moiese, Montana. Unfortunately, the “Flathead Flyer” doesn’t run anymore…
This trestle needs a train! This classic train bridge was built in 1931 to replace an earlier one from the late 1800s. Still used by Canadian Pacific Rail trains to cross the Grand River in Paris, Ontario.
Deep in a British Columbia forest is Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park, with one of the longest steel girder bridges of the historic Kettle Valley Railway. Commonly known as the Bellevue Trestle, it's 238 metres (780 ft) long and 67 metres (220 ft) high and is part of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail (Trans Canada Trail). Myra canyon its self is a short 6 kilometres from here with its 2 tunnels and 18 trestle-bridges. The views of Okanagan Lake are spectacular from an elevation of 1280 metres (4200 ft).
The link below is to another trestle in the park that was bypassed shortly after the line was built. I took the picture in 2005 and revisited it in 2022 only to find the forest took ownership of it.

Abandoned train trestle in Yantic, CT. The train went to the Yantic Woolen Mill off to the left. The property had been purchased several years ago and renovation begun to convert the mill to a hotel. The building is made of stone and is quite beautiful, but as is typical, money ran out and all construction stopped. So the building stands nicely renovated but only partially. The chain link fence surrounding the building makes it difficult to get a good shot, but it was a charming, impressive modest sized mill and would make a beautiful hotel if ever completed.
An eastbound Cimarron Valley local on the former Santa Fe Manter Subdivision crosses a trestle east of Ulysses, Kansas, on March 1, 2000. CVR GP30 No. 3023 is a former Rio Grande locomotive of the same road number.
We spent a few days on Benewah Lake, Idaho over our holiday. I was intrigued by this trestle, and the railroad tracks which run through a tunnel on the other side of the lake.
They say the train runs once a week at unpredictable times. A few locals fish from the trestle and I've heard if the train comes, you simply 'hang' off the side until it has passed. Umm sure... sign me up.
Have a nice rest of the week. I hope to catch up with all of you in the next few days.
An overpowered R-PWR8162-26I soars over one of several small wooden trestles on the Cody Subdivision between Cody and Powell, WY.
I tried a little panorama editing in Lightroom.
Also known as Wainwright bridge. Beautiful quiet area in smokey Alberta.
This view of the historic KVR railroad bed near Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, features the famous Myra Trestle that reaches down over 100 ft to the earth below. To the far right is the red shelter for riders and hikers.
Niagara Trestle on Vancouver Island in Goldstream Provincial Park. (please don't worry, the tracks are abandoned)
This trestle is reflected in the waters of the Cache La Poudre river at sunset.

Sunday October third I headed north to await the eastbound run of CP's business train en route to St. John. Unfortunately the SD70acu was leading this portion, but Tuesday we had better luck with a full chase of 1401 up front. Given the amount of spectators on a Sunday I opted to just shoot Onawa and anything east that would work. I showed up at Onawa not long after two others, and we awaited the train's arrival together. It was nice to make new acquaintances. The sky was back and forth between total clouds and sun all morning, but luckily the sun shined through when it mattered most. Borestone juts well out of the earth in the background mostly covered in clouds.
We passed this old trestle bridge shortly before getting to the summit of White Pass. Couldn't see it through the fog until we were right on it.
With dynamic brakes doing the work, a late running Buffalo & Pittsburgh BT-3 eases over one of three trestles at Chicora, PA and down the steady grade as it heads back to Butler. This bridge, is the largest, and the most photographed of them.
