I am running very late, partly due to football, partly due to the obstinate refusal of this shell to want to be anything but orange.
I thought it should have a blue tone, more in line with the sea, but it won't have it. This is one of two bought shells (who knows why as I have so many shells in the house, but I guess I just liked them) and I put it on a frosted glass lamp shade, using it as a light box to make the shell look transparent and bring out the fine patterns. So far so good, but because the middle is dark it didn't look good and I used one of my presets. Now I am stuck with it. Nothing else looked good, not even bw. So I give up and post it as it is.

El transparente es una obra escultórica realizada entre 1729 y 1732 por Narciso Tomé, escultor del barroco. Se encuentra en el muro absidal, en el trasaltar mayor. Es de estilo barroco y churrigueresco. Se la considera obra maestra de este arquitecto-escultor. Todo el grupo escultórico es considerado como composición arquitectónica más que escultórica.
La idea de hacer este transparente rompiendo el muro absidal surgió con el fin de dar luz al sagrario que se encuentra justo a su espalda de manera que el transparente queda iluminado al mismo tiempo que reparte la luz hacia el sagrario.
Toda la obra está compuesta y fabricada de mármoles, jaspe y bronce.
La obra entera presenta movimientos de líneas como corresponde a lo más espectacular del barroco español. Como culminación está la gran oquedad de la bóveda por donde entra la luz.

I'm sure you all know the tube caps that have a star-shaped tool on the upper, "non-screwy" side which serves as opener for tubes that are sealed. This is one. A Sunday breakfast table discovery, when I opened a tube with a delicious (bread) spread inside and by chance noticed that the cap is semi-transparent (which looked nice held against the sunlight) and also round. So I thought I'd give it a try as a circular object within a square frame. And since I ran out of time, in the end this was my only circular object in a square frame ;-) Since I wanted to backlight it, I didn't shoot it from above, but up front, with blue transparent paper as background and both propped against my small LED torch (its diameter is the same as the cap's: 2,2 cm / 0,86 inches). This is a focus stack composed of 25 images rendered in Helicon Focus (Method B). Processed in Analog Efex Pro and ON1 Photo RAW (filters: HDR "Glow" and "Normal", Tone Enhancer and Dynamic Contrast, each with my own sliders tweaks).

Ihr kennt bestimmt alle diese Tubenverschlüsse, die auf der oberen Seite so ein sternförmiges "Werkzeug" zum Öffnen der Tube haben. Dies ist so ein Verschluss. Eine Zufallsentdeckung am sonntäglichen Frühstückstisch, als ich eine Tube mit einem leckeren Aufstrich öffnete und den Verschluss aus Spaß gegen das Licht hielt. Der Anblick machte neugierig, und da der Verschluss praktischerweise auch rund ist, wie es die meisten Tubenverschlüsse so an sich haben, bot sich hier eine Möglichkeit für die Quadratur des Kreises. Am Ende blieb es die einzige Möglichkeit, da ich gestern schlicht keine Zeit für mehr Fotos mit anderen runden Dingen in einem quadratischen Rahmen hatte. Um den Verschluss direkt von hinten anstrahlen zu können, habe ich ihn nicht von oben fotografiert, sondern von vorn. Als Hintergrund diente ein Blatt blaues Transparentpapier, hinter das ich meine kleine LED-Taschenlampe legte, die denselben Durchmesser hat wie der Verschluss: 2,2 cm. Das fertige Foto ist ein Fokus Stack aus 25 Bildern, zusammengefügt in Helicon Focus (Methode B) und bearbeitet in Analog Efex und ON1 Photo RAW.

A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, suborder Anisoptera (from Greek ανισος anisos "uneven" + πτερος pteros, "wings", because the hindwing is broader than the forewing). Adult dragonflies are characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings, sometimes with coloured patches, and an elongated body. Dragonflies can be mistaken for the related group, damselflies (Zygoptera), which are similar in structure though usually lighter in build; however, the wings of most dragonflies are held flat and away from the body, while damselflies hold the wings folded at rest, along or above the abdomen. Dragonflies are agile fliers while damselflies have a weaker, fluttery flight. Many dragonflies have brilliant iridescent or metallic colours produced by structural coloration, making them conspicuous in flight. An adult dragonfly eye has nearly 24,000 ommatidia.
Dragonflies are predators, both in their aquatic larval stage, when they are known as nymphs or naiads, and as adults. Several years of their life are spent as a nymph living in freshwater; the adults may be on the wing for just a few days or weeks. They are fast agile fliers, sometimes migrating across oceans, and are often but not always found near water.

Es uno de los jardines más bonitos e impresionantes de Madeira.
Su historia se remonta al siglo XVIII con la "Quinta do Prazer". A finales del siglo XIX, el anterior propietario construyó una casa palaciega, rodeada de verdes jardines, que posteriormente se transformó en un hotel llamado "Monte Palace Hotel". En 1987 fue adquirido por el empresario José Manuel Rodrigues Berardo con el objetivo de preservar este espacio.
El Monte Palace Madeira - Jardín Tropical ocupa una superficie de 70 000 m2 y fue reforestado con plantas exóticas procedentes de varios continentes: cícadas, proteas, clivias y hortensias de Sudáfrica, azaleas de Bélgica, orquídeas del Himalaya, brezo de Escocia, secuoyas de América, acacias de Australia y olivos milenarios de Alqueva, Portugal, entre otros.
Parte del jardín ha sido reforestado con plantas características de la Laurissilva, que fue clasificada por la Unesco como Patrimonio Natural Mundial en 2000. Entre las plantas de este bosque endémico, podemos encontrar: el laurel (laurus novocanariensis); el laurel de Madeira (ocotea foetens); la caoba de Madeira (persea indica); el barbusano de Madeira (apollonias barbujana); la haya (myrica faya); el lirio de los valles (clethra arborea); el cedro de Madeira (juniperus cedrus); la moca de Madeira (pittosporum coriaceum), una especie en peligro de extinción, entre otras.
La exuberante vegetación rodea enormes lagunas repletas de carpas koi, que ofrecen a los visitantes un agradable espectáculo, debido a la transparencia del agua y al brillo y color de los peces, que pueden vivir hasta 100 años.
Las alamedas del jardín se han enriquecido con una colección de azulejos de los siglos XVI al XX, destacando los paneles dedicados a la "Historia de Portugal" y a la "Aventura de los portugueses en Japón". En el jardín también se pueden ver escudos, cantería, esculturas, nichos, pagodas, budas y faroles.
En la parte más alta del jardín se construyó el Museo Monte Palace Madeira, un espacio expositivo con tres galerías. En la planta baja se expone una colección de minerales y piedras preciosas procedentes de los cuatro rincones del mundo, y en la primera y segunda planta, una colección de escultura contemporánea de Zimbabue.
I wanted to create a soft abstract image of a rose. Using a slow shutter speed enabled me to use movement to create the soft folds. It reminds me of a watercolor painting. Each transparent layer adds to the overall depth.
On that fundamental ground where love's unwilled, unleashed, unbound and half the perfect world is found (Madeleine Peyroux). Only the power of poetry comes close. The sun about to set. Leica M246 Mono, Elmarit-M 2.8/28 at F22.
