On this woven, smeared because of doing my training runs. That's really not nice. Sometimes you can only run with spikes shoes. But then comes a firmer underground, then you can not walk with the spikes shoes anymore. But the worst thing is this mud and dirt .... I'm looking forward to the spring when it gets warmer and the running tracks are more firm and dry.
Gipsy, the little kestrel from Schloss Harburg trains his wings. Even if he can't fly yet, he keeps holding them up in the wind to feel the air currents that will soon carry him up into the sky.
Soon he will be hovering over the fields in this stance, keeping an eye out for unwary mice.
By the way, kestrels are the only birds of prey (that I know of) that can fly on the spot because of their low weight, the shape of theit feathers and their special flight technique. This technique is called windhovering flight. Buzzards sometimes try it too, but none masters it as perfectly as the kestrel.
Gipsy, der kleine Turmfalke von Schloss Harburg trainiert seine Flügel. Auch wenn er noch nicht fliegen kann so hält er sie doch immer wieder in den Wind um die Luftströhmungen zu fühlen, die ihn bald in den Himmel tragen werden.
Bald wird er in dieser Haltung über den Felder schweben um nach unvorsichtigen Mäusen Ausschau zu halten.
Turmfalken sind übrigens auf Grund ihres geringen Gewichtes, der Form ihrer Federn und ihrer besonderen Flugtechnik die einzigen Raubvögel (von denen ich weiß) die auf der Stelle fliegen können. Diese Technik nennt sich Rüttelflug. Auch Bussarde versuchen sich manchmal darin, doch keiner beherrscht es so perfekt wie der Turmfalke.

This pied avocet seems to teach its little chick how to find food in the water. It looked so adorable how the small little fluff ball so seriously tried to act like mom (or dad?).
Life saver boat training at Mullaloo Beach. Its the beginning of spring and the clubs (manned by volunteers) are getting ready for the warmer weather. This boat is just approaching the beach.

Romana kindly spent several hours getting me set up and crafting in the Sindaria community, a cyberpunk/high fanasy RP realm.
Flight Training.
It was fun watching Glossy Ibis encouraging their fledglings to fly at Ocean City, NJ. The parent would land close to the hungry chicks, but would move away before before feeding them, forcing them to follow and fly if they wanted to be fed.
After a successful flight and often rough landing the fledglings were rewarded with food as can be seen in the photograph at the top of the comment box.

Before the seasonal Rocky Mountaineer trips between Denver and Moab, Utah, begin on April 16, the company is running three training/familiarization runs over the route. Today, March 28, 2023, the first training trip is shown returning to Denver at mile 14.5 on Union Pacific's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision. This location is just west of Leyden siding. RMRX engines 8020 and 8021 power the 10-car train. Photo by Joe McMillan, 3:27 p.m., 45 degrees.
Pretty boring photo really but I quite liked the contrasting light and lines. Being that this stream is a visual diary of the world as I see it I thought I would make this one public. Thanks for visiting and taking the time to read :)
