Faire de la photo à Montréal m’amène à découvrir ses quartiers.
Les découvrir m’amène à chercher leur histoire.
Il y a le Griffintown qui m’était totalement inconnu.
Beaucoup de recherches, de lectures, de visionnement, de marches.
Il y a la petite Bourgogne où je suis allée chercher des souvenirs de mon enfance quand j’allais chez ma grand-mère, des tantes etc…Plus rien n'existait. Et pourtant rien de mieux rue Des seigneurs là où habitait ma grand-mère.
Moi qui venait du très loin est de la ville (tout près de ville de Montréal-est) c’était loin et différent.
On parle encore d’expropriation : Turcot, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Griffintown etc…
Je ne savais pas qu’en 1967 à Petite-Bourgogne, dans les années 60-70 dans le Griffintown et aussi dans le quartier Centre-Sud (expropriation pour Radio-Canada), les gens réagissaient, se regroupaient car ils ne voulaient pas quitter leurs habitations, leurs quartiers, leur voisinage.
Le plus récent documentaire je viens tout juste de le visionner. Et je vous invite à le voir à votre tour. Il faut se dire qu’on est dans les années 60, que les gens sont peu scolarisés, les femmes à la maison etc….et pourtant ils ne veulent pas se laisser faire et ils revendiquent.

I have been unable to trace the background for Csgt Webb.
The cemetery seems to have been opened in the early 20th Century. At one time, on the hillside above the River Ebbw, it would have been a peaceful spot. Today there is a constant roar of traffic from the A467.

The show contains individual artwork by both artists, as well as in-progress collaborative work made this past fall at MS University of Baroda, India. Sathyanand Mohan is a professor in the Graphic Arts Department at MSU. Kate Copeland visited the area while on a Fullbright Scholarship.
