From left: Toledo City Schools bus #596, #595, & #594. Bus #596 & #594 were 1980 International chassis that were rebuilt and had 1992 Carpenter bodies placed on them. The middle bus (#595) is a 1980 International chassis that had a 1994 Wayne body placed on it. Orignally these were gasoline buses and they were converted to diesel when they were rebuilt. In total about 30 buses were rebuilt in this program which was managed and conducted in house. The old body was scrapped and the chassis was rebuilt at the TPS garage. Then the rebuilt chassis was towed to a body upfitter to have the new body put on. This saved the district considerable money and enabled them to purchase a number of new buses in this period that otherwise would not have been able to be purchased. A number of the rebodied buses remained in service until 2010 a full thirty years after the initial bus was built.

This is an exterior shot of Toledo Public Schools bus #714 which was a 1984 Blue Bird All American.
TPS purchased a total of 34 Blue Bird All Americans between 1980 & 1987 for use on the high density routes. Of the 34 buses, 30 of them (700-726 & 731-733) were purchased new and came with diesel engines from the factory. The early units had the Cummins 555 CID V8 diesels with Allison Automatics. Starting with the 1986 models the engine of choice was the 8.2 liter with an Allison transmitting the power to the wheels. There were also four used All Americans (727 a 1981 model, 728-730 1977 models) that were purchased from Akron City Schools which came with gasoline engines and were converted to diesel shortly after TPS purchased them. The majority of these buses remained in service until around 2005 when they began to be retired and most were gone by 2008.
To the buyers classifications: Stock and upper rail delete. STANAG magazine adapter with 20rd magpul magazine. Folding foregrip integrated into handguard. Sling mounts. Low profile sight. TPS never asks questions of their buyers, and it was no huge surprise when this weapon was found in the dead hands of a notorious bank robber... surrounded by a multitude of slain police officers.
This is Toledo City Schools bus #536 which was a 1980's Ford B700 with a Thomas body. This bus, along with four others, was bought used in 2000 from a Columbus area school district. One of the other buses (537) was a Ford/Thomas identical to 536 and the other three were mid 80's S-Series International's with Thomas bodies. The units served in Toledo until around 2010 before final retirement. This particular bus has a Detroit Diesel 8.2L "Fuel Pincher" engine, an Allison AT545 automatic transmission, and hydraulic brakes.
