At yet another birthday party with the kids this past weekend, at Quassy amusement park located on Lake Quassapaug. The kiddie park area, where I inevitably spend most of my time, is separated from the water by only a fence. So of course, with the sun setting, my attention is being torn by this lovely sunset glittering on the water...and like usual, I feel like I'm the only one noticing the beauty.
I took some shots, but this time for kicks, I tried a few shots in sunset mode, which is something I very rarely use because I don't like the result. It seems to take away the colors and adds an almost sepia tone...maybe because it's an older camera, I don't know. But I actually like the result here, giving everything an amber glow...reminding me of tiger-eye contrasting with the dark areas.

The flora of the Andes National Park Cotopaxi (Ecuador) is rich in plants with delicate flowers, but unfortunately, for the most part, I don't know their names. But I'll show them to you anyway, they are very pretty!

Stilpnia heinei -juvenile male- (Black-capped Tanager / Tangara capirotada)
Juvenile males show a kaleidoscope of colours: Yellow-green as the females and blue tones as adult males.
Black-capped Tanagers are vividly-colored tropical birds that occur in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru. They often occur in pairs foraging in bushes and trees for insects and fruit.
It is one of the few species in the genus that shows obvious sexual dichromatism, with males primarily gray-blue in color with a distinctive black cap, and females yellow-green without a black cap.

Sunset and reflection captured from Barassie Beach in Ayrshire, Scotland.
The shifting sandbanks often create these slowly emptying pools as the tide goes out on the beach at Barassie. I captured this handheld at arms length with some much practiced blind aiming.
The sun setting over the Isle of Arran is one of the most beautiful benefits of living in this part of the world.

Decided to play around with a single tone with this photo to show the effect and power of a single colour.
Could have used black and white however thought it might be more interesting using a coffee coloured tone. Who doesn't like coffee right?

Warm-colored thrush, with bright reddish-brown tones above, buffy breast, and white belly. Spots are indistinct and washed out, concentrating on upper breast. Beautiful song is cascading spiral of flute-like notes. Found in a variety of wooded habitats, often favoring wetter areas. Winters in South and Central America; very rare in the U.S. after October, unlike Hermit Thrush. (eBird)

The trail was cool and dim, and the Veery thought he was alone, but we were there and got the photo to prove it. Another of the elusive thrushes caught on camera. I love their call and have missed seeing or hearing over the past couple of years. It seems that they have moved from the trail near me to this one which is usually so mosquite-infested that I avoid it.

The Happy Caturday theme for 24 September 2022 is "Indian Summer" or "Warm Tones" or "Warm Colours." Tikki is, as we know from past Caturdays, the queen of fallen fall foliage, but with the Autumnal Equinox only a few days ago, it's too early for that here. So I tried to make her a warmly colored place which I believe did work for her - not as well as beneath the Japanese Maple or oak, but not half bad eh? (Her Majesty has just been diagnosed as hyperthyroid and we're trying to control that with a twice daily pill, and possibly her fur will regain glossiness once her metabolism is more normal. She should put on some of that weight she dropped unnecessarily, also.)

Friends gave us a pot of flowers planted in colours of purple, green and white: geraniums, petunias, variegated ivy - and these lovely tiny flowers, verbena I believe, which in particular took my eye.
The dusk light last evening was strange in the light rain and once in a while it draws you into the backyard to take a look.
Such a wonderful color and tone. It enriches the area where it stands. It’s tendency is to enhance any vegetation nearby. I think beauty like this can’t go ignored so why not take the photo opportunity to capture, share and save a piece of God’s natural beauty. Thanks for viewing my work. Gratitude and Kindness aren’t partial to any species as it’s meant to be part of life’s beauty for all to witness.
