"Macro Mondays".. "Chain". This chain & sprocket are unused and date back to the 1960s. I had to open two BMC "British Motor Corporation" parts packets to photograph these items. The oily appearance is the original anti-corrosion preservative.
Up to 260 HP with the 2.0L GM Ecotec dual-scroll Turbocharged 4-cylinder. The 2 liter (122 ci) engine with 260 HP puts out over 2 HP per cubic inch. With optional dealer computer re-flash tune up, HP could be bumped to 290 with an 80 ft/lb boost in torque output. A 5-Speed manual transmission was standard, but a 5-speed automatic was available. Independent front & rear suspension. Built on GM's Kappa platform RWD. Color shown is "Mean Yellow". Car has standard Stabilitrac traction control; limited slip differential; anti-lock brakes and 18" wheels. GM claims the car with 260 HP factory tune would run 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. 1/4 Mile ET = 13.7, 1/4 mile trap speed = 102 MPH. Corporate cousins would be: Opel GT; Saturn Sky; and Daewoo G2X.

The M102 engine has a single timing chain which should be replaced every 200,000 km or so. This engine is in a Mercedes-Benz 200 (W123).
Timing chain failure on the Vauxhall Corsa is common. This week Ian & Charlie recovered another one. The badly worn chain had allowed the timing to slip. It had not damaged the valves so a replacement timing chain, sprockets, guides etc, together with a good flush and fresh oil and filter fixed. A fairly expensive job but when finished it ran better and quieter than it has for years.
Twin Turbo V8’s and ECU /TCU programming are meant for each other. APR brought these two together to make big time power.
It has been quite the job but I am in the final steps now. I have also been replacing all the oil seals and cooling system components as I go. The new water pump is in and I am waiting on Nissan for a few of the hoses I still needed.
The freezing plug has come loose. Not because of frost.. but just.. well, just because.. The coolant then mixed up with the engine oil, as the coolant found it's way to the timingchain department.. A simple new plug and lots of hours for cleaning the engine is what should be done now... My car is a Peugeot 308 SW XS Premiere 1.6 VTI.

Finished the lift assembly today and used a "come-a-long" to pull the car on. Now we can get to work.
Hope to have time to do a little detailiing in here before installing the engine and transmission etc.
The brown tint on the insulators are a good sign. The sleeves look a little oily. I would be suprized if they were not. These plugs have about 75K miles on them but this engine is getting close to 200,000 miles.

They really pack it all in a small space. In this picture I had already removed the radiator fan units and the exhust manifold.
She runs great but the timing chain guides are worn out and making lots of noise against the chain so it is time to replace the chains and tensioners. The manual said it can be done in the car but with all the oil leaks I would rather pull it and fix everything at once with a lot more elbow room. Later working on a similar project car I found that lowering the engine and trans out the bottom as one unit was much easier than pulling the engine out this way.

That rear crankshaft seal looks dry but we are replacing it anyway due to it's age and while the trans is out of the vehicle. Will be dropping the oilpan and resealing it also while we are at it.
The bridge jack bridges the opening between the lift's runways. It lifts the car for tire, brake and suspention work. It also has built in safety stops. I went ahead and added the jack stands behind it because this is it's first use.

Took off the valve cover to change the valve cover gasket and inspect a noise coming from the timing chain area on my old motor. I have since replaced it with a 30K motor.

The work begins. I did not lift one piece by hand. Using the engine lift I uncrated the lift and started putting it together.
Also installed the runways to the cross over bars ( picture prior too) more pics later.

This was the puzzle. Unloading a 2000 lbs cated vehicle storage/service lift from a trailer without fork lift equipment. This engine lift, in team with a bumper jack, made the job possible. (Picture taken after driving trailer away and lowering unit on to 24" jackstands).
The bumper jack handled half the load from the rear. (Jack shown behind unit still in position but after lowering unit onto 24" jack stands.

This is a macro of my timing chain.
I pulled the valve cover off of my 1995 Nissan Altima. It has 175,000 miles on it. I had to replace the seals around the spark plug ports and valve covers because they were leaking oil.
$30 U.S. my cost for parts. Did the labor myself. Only one small injury... :c )
