Behind time goes a whole world of mechanism which needs elaborate craftsmanship to produce and maintain... This is nr. 10 in the series "A Watchmakers Inheritance"

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say...

Sometimes you find inspiration and sometimes it finds you, as is the case this morning. I was having a cup of coffee and looking at some ideas on the web for a big bucket list trip I am planning when I looked up and saw this scene on the wall in front of me, and in an instant I had this thought that someone was reminding me that all I was doing was wasting time instead of getting outside with the camera.

This is our decision, to live fast and die young.
We've got the vision, now let's have some fun.

HBW everyone!

So my relief is into traffic and I would REALLY like to get a shot of the Amtrak Retro-GE. No problem I say, pulling my SUV up to the barbed-wire fence around our office and squeezing off a decent broadside as #22 heads into town...Then time for a turnover!

This was the first time I've captured a completely clear sky above Knowlton Church in north Dorset. Having bumped into a pair of deep sky astrophotographers just packing up when I arrived, I had the place to myself, and established a close enough alignment with Polaris to work with 4-minute sky exposures. The core of the Milky Way no longer appears above the horizon this late in the year, but I'm encouraged with the improvements in my equatorial mount alignment and sure that I'll get to work with even longer exposures early next year.
