Found this jet engine from Qantas at the Wings Over Illawarra airshow. Interesting to get up close and personal on the workings.
Being a welder by trade, I sure can appreciate the finer points of a perfect Tig weld.Here in the three images you have front and rear views of the engine.
I studied the frame with a structural analysis software in order to optimize the flexibility under the in line forces and maximize the stiffness in the out-of-line forces.
The decidedly sloping geometry of this frame reduces by 10% the rigidity with respect to the frames with more traditional geometry, while the gusset plates on the rear frame increase its stiffness by 80% compared to their absence.
