I actually took these photos of "Frog" (that's what Cara calls it so we'll call it "Frog", for now, at least!) before I took photos of "Kiko". Just like "Kiko" we found "Frog" also out in our backyard. Same lens used. Macro. No major sunlight that day. ***Best viewed Large!!!***
"Frog" was thumbsized. A Silver Dollar is way bigger. He (I'm gender-supplying here!) was small but he he gave an air of authority and ownership over his little territory.

One really boring evening, I shot this pic of tiny thumbsized but very colorful magnetic masks. I just used reflected light off the refrigerator to create the dramatic effect i wanted.

Shot it at Kumbha Mela 2010.Its a greatest show on the Earth.
In Hindu mythology, its origin is found in one of the popular creation myths and the Hindu theories on evolution, the Samudra manthan episode (Churning of the ocean of milk), which finds mention in the Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana, the Mahabharata, and the Ramayana.
The Gods had lost their strength, and to regain it, they thought of churning the Ksheera Sagara (primordial ocean of milk) for amrit (the nectar of immortality), this required them to make a temporary agreement with their arch enemies, the demons or Asuras, to work together with a promise of sharing the nectar equally thereafter. However, when the Kumbha (urn) containing the amrita appeared, a fight ensued. For twelve days and twelve nights (equivalent to twelve human years) the gods and demons fought in the sky for the pot of amrita. It is believed that during the battle, Lord Vishnu flew away with the Kumbha of elixir, and that is when drops of amrita fell at four places on earth: Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik, and that is where the Kumbh Mela is observed every twelve years.
First written evidence of the Kumbha Mela can be found in the accounts of Chinese traveller, Huan Tsang or Xuanzang (602 - 664 A.D.) who visited India in 629 -645 CE, during the reign of King Harshavardhana.

Sigh: …another autumnal capture from my garden. It's not that I wouldn't have plenty to do in it and which doesn't include the words TAKING PICTURES.... It's more about the fact that I have to throw my tools in the grass, run into the house and compulsory HAVE to get my camera out because I MUST share this glory with you.... Sorry, if it gets too much sometimes - winter however will be on us soon enough!

Personally, I usually don't want to take too much colour to my Flickr page (that is, manmade colours) but this looked in its natural state just simply too banal in it's thumbsize glory, which says - sadly - something about the 'attraction' of only STRONG statements on Flickr, BUT, I add the original here for your consideration in the comments box. This thumbsized dynamo has so many lovely colours that can only be appreciated by zooming in close...and that is easier said than done because of its perpetual motion.

So the soup - this particular laksa was prawn laksa with lots of little fish balls floating around in it. I had to make two pots - one for the big people and one for the wimps who couldn't take Chilli. :)
It's quite an involved process making Laksa as you'll see below. There's a ton of ingredients - and most of them are stinky and only available in those asian grocers in chinatown.
My biggest tip is to make sure you get really nice fresh prawns. No cheap nasty frozen ones. Fresh is best. When you cook the prawns, make sure you save all the stock - and keep all the peeled shells and heads etc in the pot so if you need to top up the soup with more stock you can just add more water and bring it to the boil.
I also use half the Coconut milk and twice as much stock to make a less rich version. it's still just as tasty as long as you use the stock above. If you don't like it as prawny, you can substitute chicken stock instead and use half the dried prawn.
Rempah (Paste)
(use a food processor to grind all the ingredients but the dried prawns together - do these first and keep them separate):
2 lemon grass
2 thumbsize galangal (sliced thinly)
2 thumbsize pieces fresh tumeric
12 candlenuts
25 shallots (the little onions that look like garlic, not the spring onions)
15 dried chillies
2 slices shrimp paste/belachan (watch out, STINKY)
2 tbsp coriander powder
100g dried prawns, ground finely
Heat a frying pan till hot, add in 1 cup oil and stir fry rempah on low till fragrant and chilli oil oozes out from the mixture. Add in ground dried prawns and stir fry mixture for another 2-3 mins. Raise heat, add in prawn stock (1.8L) and coconut milk (1.8L) and bring to boil. Add sugar and salt to taste. Lower the fire and simmer for at least 10 minutes stirring often.
A few minutes before serving, add fish balls (about 2-3 per person). Check seasoning - if laksa is too thick, add more prawn stock. This should serve about 12-15 people.
To Serve:
It's custom for each person to take a bowl and take some noodles, and arrange all the added ingredients eg cooked prawns, fish cake, tofu, etc on top. Pour a big ladle of the steaming hot soup over everything and drain this back into the pot, as this will warm the noodles through. Pour as much soup as desired back into warmed bowl and sprinkle generously with laksa leaves.

sort of faux taho, anyway. kinu tofu with a brown sugar ginger sauce.
ginger sauce
2 c water
1 thumbsized (or longer if you've got a small thumb) knob of ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
1/3 c brown sugar
boil the ginger, water and sugar for at least 10 minutes. the longer you boil, the spicier it gets; alternately, take it off the heat and leave to cool in the fridge overnight. strain the ginger pieces out and discard, or save for whatever reason you might like brown sugared ginger. serve warm or cold.

My kids made these animals of clay today and I felt like joining in...
I made this very tiny hedgehog. He is smaller then a coin, about the size of my thumb.
