Pacific Crest Trail, Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, Washington
After what has seemed like the longest, wettest, coldest spring ever, and after hiking last weekend in a chilly downpour with rain gear and fleece layers, I finally had the chance to hike in glorious summer sunshine today.
The higher alpine areas are still under snow cover, including much of my favorite summer hiking destination, Mount Rainier National Park. So I headed to the mid-elevation mountains of the Central Cascades near Snoqualmie Pass and hiked a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. It is always a bit of a thrill for me to hike on part of this iconic trail and today the views were spectacular.
It was a joyous, heart-happy day being back in the mountains and the sunshine, and the entire hike felt like a celebration.
The red eyed frog is a wonderful bonus when visiting Costa Rica . Not only are they beautiful but very interesting to watch and we are always thrilled when we are able to find one.

The bees are very scarce this year compared to last year so I was thrilled when I saw this one.

I was thrilled to have captured this Forster's Tern in flight (bif not being my forte) and I like the fact that a person is included in the frame. It puts the bird in context and shows how they both share the same space. This picture was taken early in the morning in Daytona Beach, Florida, last February.

Well I am most thrilled to say it’s another first for these pages and boy what a scoop it is!!
What you are looking at there folks is a genuine Sky Harvester, or an Awyr Cynaeafwr as they are called here in greenest Wales. It’s not an exaggeration to say that Wales, this small and sparsley populated land, is not just a world leader in this kind of green technology, but decades ahead of the rest of the field.
The drivers of these high-tech gizmos are locally known as ‘Mad Maxers’ and this one here, he’s about to turn left and head towards those clouds you see there. When he gets directly below, he will extend those telescopic side arms upwards and they will in effect, snag the cloud which is then dragged back down to earth and then towed off to a Cwmwl Ysguboe for storage. These Cwmwl Ysgubors or ‘Cloud Barns” are, as you can imagine, enormous great affairs, but as you would expect from the creators of such advanced tech, great care has been taken to blend them into the countryside by making them look like hills. They can be seen throughout my landscape photos and I could easily point them out, but unless you have a keen trained eye - one like mine, you would mistakenly think you are just looking at an ordinary hill. Sigh. I know, I know ….frustrating right…. What can I say……apart from this is why Wales is so hilly - cloud barns.
In times of severe drought, the cloud barn is opened up and a cloud towed out to the brown and parched field. It is then caused to dissolve in effect through vibrational frequency undulation - but not another hi-tech gizmo, oh no, the method employed here is traditional and hands on. The entire inclusive green community will turn out men, women, children, babes in arms, grandmas and grandpas, and they will sing as one, as only a Welsh choir can sing and as they do they march bravely into the cloud voices undulating as they sing the song “the green green grass of home” which was famously introduced into the world psyche by the Welsh fertility god, boombox, Vegas blue rinse babe magnet, and some might say pop-singing Priapus incarnate, the icon and indisputable true King of all Wales by both birth and deed, the living legend that is - (put your hands together and have your underwear at hand) - Mr ….. Sir …..Tom …… Jones! And, as the inclusive eco friendly community choir close the song down, the cloud in effect melts and hey presto! We have rain, and of course, a very wet inclusive choir and re-greened agricultural field.
And that is why, generally speaking, Welsh people are such unbelievably fabulous singers with voices like angels, because from the earliest age, they have learned to sing in the clouds……
The Chapel of St. Kingda in the Wieliczka Salt Mine is unique in many respects. This is most likely why it attracts not only tourists who seek a thrill and an “out of this world” experience, but also engaged couples who, fascinated by the magnificent ambiance, want to get married in this underground church.
This is the world’s biggest church built underground. It is located at the depth of 101 meters in the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Made exclusively of rock salt, it is dedicated to St. Kinga, a patron saint of salt mine workers.
One might think it would be dark and murky, but in the contrary! The splendid chapel, 54 meters in length, 12 meters in height and 18 meters wide, is shot through with the light of elaborate chandeliers made of true salt crystals.
Its splendours make it the dreamland location for a Holy Mass, a wedding, a classical or religious music concert for groups of up to 400 people.

It has been a difficult week, an insane heatwave,
four days of temps above 105F, dense smoke choking out PDX from the Canadian fires, and to make matters worse,
i am fighting a terrible bout of bronchitis .
We escaped to the coast where the temperature reached 90F, unheard of in these parts, finally a real beach day in Oregon :D

Imagine the thrill of sliding gracefully along the northern face of the San Juan Mountains. Mount Sneffels, 14,158 feet above sea level, is to the right.
My husband and I traveled through snow, sunshine, ice, Prairies, mountains, deserts, one Canadian province and 6 States - a total of 3,000 kms, one way to spend some time in this incredible Paradise.
We arrived as the sun hit its peak and we embraced the welcoming heat.
The show began with a visit from a coyote and a small herd of deer that chased him away. A lone buck meandered across the road. Hawks sat perched in the trees that resembled those in the Serengeti. As the Golden Hour approached, the tall, thick grasses illuminated a fiery orange - foreshadowing something that was about to transpire...
We were thrilled to spend a good four hours in this wonderful place before the sun disappeared and we made a promise that we would return, early the next morning, as the sun showed itself again, revealing the wealth of nature within this magnificent sanctuary.
“Obviously Rockefeller Center is one of the most iconic New York City landmarks, and to put a work of public art around it is always such a thrill,” said Fremont. “You see it differently when there’s art there.”
For his Rockefeller Center return, Koons is revisiting a recurring subject, a ballerina perched on a stool, adjusting her shoe. The form, from his “Antiquity” series, is inspired by a turn-of-the-century porcelain ballerina figurine found in a Russian factory. Koons has already created two versions of the piece, one just a foot-and-half tall made from hand-painted wood in an edition of 50, the other seven feet tall and made from the artist’s signature mirror-polished stainless steel with colored coating.
“Seated Ballerina is like a Venus. You could be looking at a Venus of Willendorf or some of the oldest Venuses,” said Koons in a statement. “It is really about beauty and even a sense of contemplation, a sense of ease.”

So glad we detoured to the Rockefeller Center to see this display, so delightful that was! before heading to dinner, where was only a block away.
