The thorns of these roses in the garden looks like are made of silver. They look like medieval weapons. There were other reds, green...but these ones called my attention.
These thorns are from the top of the Golden Barrel Cactus from Mexico also known as Mother- In - Laws Cushion.
Taken at the Arid Garden, Melbourne Botanical Gardens.
Although commonly cultivated, it is rare and critically endangered in the wild.

The Barberries in my garden are keeping their color unusually late this year. I love them for their color and bright, red, berries, but respect them for their thorns!

A gnarly old thorn is the only tree that grows on the mountainside among the dead bracken. Taken on a beautiful Spring morning on the Brecon Beacons.

From a palm tree that produces small coconut like fruit. The trunk and fronds are covered with these thorns. They are up to six inches long and extremely sharp. The theme "tip" for today's Looking Close on Friday group inspired this photo.

Looking over the village of Thorner from Ellerker Lane. The village is mainly hidden in the valley
Thorner is 8 miles southwest of Wetherby and has no street lighting
The village appears in the 1086 Domesday Book as "Torneure" (also "Tornoure") means "thorn bank". The ancient parish of Thorner covered 4400 acres in the wapentake of Skyrack in the West Riding of Yorkshire
in a patch of old forest near the Grey Glacier in Torres del Paine NP, Patagonia, Chile
a member of the insectivorous Ovenbirds group (Furnariidae).

I nearly forgot it was Monday today ... been watching the Queen's funeral on the telly ... so it was a quick out into the garden in search of a bramble and its sharp thorns.

We have nearly completed our journey and are almost back home. These thorny little plants were just minding their own business at the side of the road on the Plains of Camdeboo in the Karoo.
