This image reminds me a wintery scene that a well known artist named, Robert Bateman might have chosen for one of his subjects..

Bateman painted wildlife and wilderness. Many of his painting were of animals against snowy backgrounds.

This particular Eagle sat perched up high, in what looked like a winter wonderland of heavily frosted trees.

This was a very long zoom and my 300mm lens was maxed out trying to 'pluck' him from this distance.

The atmosphere also posed as somewhat of a challenge to shoot through, as it was thickened by fog.

I hope you like it............~Christie

Fifteen minutes prior to sundown. This would be the last of these effects as the bank of cloud along the horizon thickened, cutting out any chance of a sunset.

6 handheld portrait shots stitched together in PS.

As the air thickens with smoke and we all sit and wonder what is next... we realize we just need to breathe....

please note I may not be able to post for a bit due to fires in our area but I will be back ♥☺

2 a.m. and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake

"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?

I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season"

Yeah, we walk through the doors, so accusing, their eyes

Like they have any right at all to criticize

Hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable

And life's like an hourglass glued to the table

No one can find the rewind button, girl

So cradle your head in your hands

And breathe, just breathe

Oh, breathe, just breathe

You plan, you walk the lines the day before when the light is harsh. You book a place to stay that is as near as possible, but still about a 40-minute drive, and is an unheated tepee when the overnight temperatures get down to about 20°F in early June. You wake at 0330 and try to quietly depart the campsite so as not to disturb all the other sane travelers. You drive to the location and find a tour group also arriving at the same time.... but, they are setting up for the straight on shot, which you have seen a thousand times.

You know it's been dark, with few stars, but there are breaks in the clouds as you drive to the location. But, as you set up your gear, you watch in horror as the clouds thicken, a periodic drizzle is an annoyance, because you are already freezing, the winds are gusty, and the updrafts from the mountains stop the clouds in their tracks...right above the scene. The ephemeris data says this is first light...but, there is no sun, there is no horizon to the east, only heavy cloud cover.

Spring in Wyoming. Unpredictable. Frustrating. Exhilarating. Worth it.

Another one from the hiking tour to the Spronser Lakes. When we arrived at the point where you normally have a fantastic view over some of the lakes the clouds thickened and you could only catch a glimpse of a lake through a gap now and then.

Wish you a sunny weekend without any clouds ☀️😉 TGIF!

We gradually moved towards the main shooting point, about an hour remained until dawn. The fog continued to thicken and in the bitter cold we were completely covered with frost. The full moon shone brightly, turning orange at dawn. All this created excellent conditions for shooting. There was plenty of time and we were not particularly in a hurry, taking pictures of everything. This is one of those shots, nothing special, just a hazy sunrise.

No landed aliens, though. These are the sewage digestion tanks of the wastewater treatent plant Gut Großlappen, behind the A9 Autobahn.

In these digestion tanks, each 14,500 cubic metres huge, the previously thickened waste sludge is fermented in absence of oxygen for approximately 20 days at 38 °C, producing combustible biogas.

I still remember the details of that quiet way that leads to the summit and how it was changing according to the nature of the place, from farms on the slopes of the mountains until penetration among the clouds at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters above sea level where the scene acquired more beauty.. The clouds got more thickens and created the most beautiful paintings of nature while it was hugging the mountains

How to make the stars:

Equipment

1.Camera with a wide angel lens

2.Remote control to avoid the vibration (You can use the camera timer in case you do not have Remote control)

3.Solid tripod to avoid vibration

4.Motorized remote follow focus and zoom system

5.Programs: Photoshop and Starstax

6.And a lot of time and patience

The Shooting

1.Number of images: approximately 150

2.Shutter speed, Aperture and ISO: Part of the images with Manual Mode (30s | F/4.0 | 3200). The other part with Bulb Mode (45s | F/8.0-10 | 3200).

3.SingIe Shoots: I prefer to take a picture of the scene by the smallest Aperture possible to obtain high accuracy of the scene

4.Zoom-in/out: During the imaging process, I do zoom-in until the last possible focal length and then Zoom out to get the undulating motion of stars. Preferably to do this process toward the North Star to avoid the process of integrating more than a picture. But it’s also possible not toward the North Star. By the way, this process is not easy and it will be need a motorized remote follow focus and zoom system (Cost is a bit high).

The Editing

1.Merge the images with the Starstax by adding all images in the “inputs images” section and click above “Start progressing”. Or you can use the Photoshop for merging, add all images as layers by clicking on File>Scripts>Load Files into stacks .. then change the blending mode of all images to Lighten

2.For movement resembling the fall of comets: I use the Starstax and add all images and “Start progressing”. Then Preferences window and chose Blending mode “Gap Filling”.. check the Comet Mode and make it a little bit Short Trails.

3.After that I take the final stars images to the Photoshop to do some changes: Add Hue/saturation to give the color of the stars more Aesthetic. Add Levels to hide some Stars. The end is the brightest Star + blured brightest Star + white points.

I will soon create a video for each process from start to finish. And I will work all the experiments, both with the motorized remote follow focus and zoom system or without and search for the cheapest solution. I can’t appreciate exactly when I do the video, because I’m at the time very busy with most important things as photography. But please follow me on Facebook from here to watch the video when I published it.

In botany, succulent plants, also known as succulents, are plants that have some parts that are more than normally thickened and fleshy, usually to retain water in arid climates or soil conditions. Wikipedia

A cactus (plural: cacti) is a member of the plant family Cactaceae, a family comprising about 127 genera with some 1750 known species of the order Caryophyllales. The word "cactus" derives, through Latin, from the Ancient Greek κάκτος, kaktos, Cacti occur in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Most cacti live in habitats subject to at least some drought. Many live in extremely dry environments, even being found in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on earth. Cacti show many adaptations to conserve water. Almost all cacti are succulents, meaning they have thickened, fleshy parts adapted to store water. Cacti are native to the Americas, ranging from Patagonia in the south to parts of western Canada in the north.

We could see the storm approaching, a mirage after years of drought. The clouds thickened and the sky on the northwest horizon turned black. A single bolt of lightning shot out, but, wierdly, no sound of thunder reached us although we knew it was close.

Our first thought was to leave the refuge and head south before the storm hit until we noticed the rain never reached the ground. These are called "virga," when moisture in clouds reaches for the earth evaporating as it falls, denying us much needed water.

So, we stayed to photograph the beauty until the clouds swallowed up the sun.

The word succulent comes from the Latin word sucus, meaning 'juice', or 'sap'. Succulent plants, also known as succulents, are plants with parts that are thickened, fleshy and engorged, usually to retain water in arid climates or soil conditions. Succulents are often grown as ornamental plants because of their striking and unusual appearance, as well as their ability to thrive with relatively minimal care. The habitats of these water preserving plants are often in areas with high temperatures and low rainfall, such as deserts. Succulents have the ability to thrive on limited water sources, such as mist and dew, which makes them equipped to survive in an ecosystem which contains scarce water sources. 5025

I've been doing for the first time in this place in order to take the diamond Fuji.

Unfortunately, the clouds will gradually thicken, it was not possible to see Mount Fuji.

Apple Custard Tarte from Brittany (delicious!)

1 pie dough

4 large apples - about 2 pounds

2 Tablespoons butter

2 Tablespoons honey

3 eggs

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup ground almonds

1/2 cup heavy cream or crème fraîche

2 tablespoons apple brandy

¼ cup sliced almonds, to sprinkle on top of the tarte (optional)

Fit the pie dough to a 10 inch tart pan, pressing it firmly onto the sides and bottom.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake crust for 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

Peel the apple, core and cut each quarter into four slices.

Sautée the apple slices in butter and caramelize them with the honey.

Beat the eggs until they are frothy. Beat in the sugar until the mixture thickens slightly (about 1 minute with a hand mixer). Beat in the ground almonds, heavy cream (or crème fraîche) and brandy.

Place the apple slices in an attractive pattern in the tart shell.

Pour the custard on top of the apples and sprinkle the sliced almonds on top.

Place the tart in the oven and lower the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 35 minutes.

−Serve while it is still warm.

23-august-2021: the storm front, still late at night, created a depression offshore on the Northern Adriatic, which slowed down the eastward advance of the system, further weakened by the inevitable geo-orographic activation (in the lower strata) of Bora local wind (from inland towards the depression), dry and more cool, cutting off potential energy supplies as the storm approached the Gulf of Trieste/Tržáški zalív.

This is probably the best picture, because subsequently the cloud mass and precipitation will weaken.

I had intended to go to Attenborough for a couple of hours as it was quite sunny at home, but as I was driving there, the fog developed and thickened as I dropped down towards the River Trent. So, I turned back home since I thought the light would be too poor there for photography.

I found a flock of Redwings feeding on Rowan trees by the roadside as I was driving back to Wollaton, through Bramcote. I pulled off the main road to take some photos as the fog seemed thinner.

After an hour or so, I decided to raise the ISO and try to grab some flight shots if I could. The Redwings were a bit fast and tricky up close, fluked this one, which I quite liked for the display of the characteristic red underwing, so here it is.

In the absence of leaves, enlarged stems carry out photosynthesis. Cacti are native to the Americas, ranging from Patagonia in the south to parts of western Canada in the north. Oncidiums are popular indoor for a very good reason, their large sprays of flowers often sag with dozens of blooms. They have been freely hybridized. There are actually several hundred recognized oncidium species, but the naming is not stable, so there is considerable flux as experts reclassify plants.

The most common oncidium grow well under normal indoor conditions. They have large pseudobulbs (a bulbous thickened area of the stem) that come up from a mass of thin white roots. The large leaves can get up to 2 feet long and emerge from the pseudobulbs. The oncidium flowers in fall.

Blooming:

Oncidiums are magnificent in bloom. A large, well-grown plant might yield six or seven-branched sprays of yellow flowers. The effect is very much like a cloud of buttery butterflies. The most popular species include O. leucochilum, O. longipes, O. sarcodes, O. pulchellum, as well as many hybrids. Although oncidiums are known for their yellow flowers, other varieties are available. The O. Sharry Baby is sometimes called the chocolate orchid for its sprays of brownish flowers with a rich cocoa scent.

The common scorpion fly (Panorpa communis) is a species of beaked fly whose males have a clearly thickened genital segment at the end of the abdomen, which is usually carried upwards and recalls the sting of a scorpion. This is the german name of this species and the whole family of scorpion flies (Panorpidae). In December 2017, the common scorpion fly was selected as insect of the year 2018.

23-february-2021: with the darkness (and a bit of Moonlight) a light breeze from the Karst Region, due to the nocturnal thermal drop of the emerged lands, quickly eliminated the annoying (and "noisy") mist, making the contrasts sharper and improving the detail.

A usual situation in these parts from late twilight until the first morning after, which makes the fog more photogenic than in other parts where mist always surrounds fog.

The breezes from the inside push the mist towards the open sea, but do not affect the fog, characterized by denser and heavier air, which, on the contrary, has thickened.

♫ Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round ♫ (Because he kept humming this song...)

Taken at Faded: LANA~

Beautiful music was playing across the hidden ethereal forest. It felt like an awakening dream to be drawn towards haunting tunes. Her steps were light when she spotted the figure playing on the old piano.

The fog around them thickened while she sat next to him and just enjoyed the music he was creating.

"Sleep a little." He said, "You seem tired."

"How did you know?" she asked, raising her eyebrows.

He didn't answer and just continued the enchanting music until she couldn't stay awake and stole the chance for a little sleep.

P.S. Thankkk you Kaii for doing this photo with me. :D find his version in his awesome talented stream.

This rather damp Red Squirrel was raiding the peanut feeders at Vane Farm RSPB this afternoon. A hopeful photographic trip was hampered by thickening fog whilst I was there

Chicken with Mushrooms

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 and 1/2 pounds chicken breasts

Salt and pepper

2 -3 tablespoon olive oil

¼ cup peppers, sliced in thin strips

1 Tbsp crushed garlic

1 pound button mushrooms, trimmed and halved

1/4 cup dry white wine (optional)

1/4 cup chicken broth

2 Tablespoons flour or corn flour

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

-Cut chicken breasts into cutlets and flatten evenly.

Place flour in a shallow dish and season with salt and pepper.

-Coat chicken with flour, shaking off excess.

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high.

Cook chicken until browned and cooked through, about 3 minutes per side and transfer to a plate.

Reduce heat to medium, add 2 tablespoons oil, peppers and garlic. Cook 3 minutes. Add mushrooms and parsley, and cook until softened, 6 minutes.

In a measuring cup, blend wine, broth and flour.

Add to mushroom mixture and cook, stirring, until thickened, about 3 minutes.

Serve on rice or mashed potatoes. Top with chicken and mushrooms.

Quince and Cranberry Compote (Compotes de coings)

2 Quinces (peeled, cored and diced)

12 ounces cranberries (rinsed, stemmed, picked through and drained)

1 cup orange juice

1 cup super fine sugar

Place the diced quince in a small saucepan with enough water to cover fruit over high heat. Bring to boil, lower heat to medium and simmer until quince is fork tender. Set aside without draining fruit to avoid discoloration.

Place cranberries and orange juice, sugar in saucepan over high heat.

Bring to a boil and cook for about 2 minutes.

Lower heat to medium, add drained quince and simmer for about 10 minutes or until mixture thickens and quince melds with the cranberries.

Remove from the heat and cool completely. Refrigerate until use.

Apple-Quince Compote

2 McIntosh apples, peeled, cored and sliced

2 quinces, peeled, sliced and cored (it is easier to slice around the core)

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

3 cinnamon sticks

1-2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon honey

1 cup water

Combine the apples, quinces, lemon juice, cinnamon sticks, sugar, honey and 1 cup water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Cover, reduce the heat to medium-low and cook until the apples and quinces are very soft but still a bit chunky, 15 to 20 minutes. Taste the mixture, add sugar if desired.

Remove the sauce from the heat. Cool to room temperature.

Remove the cinnamon sticks and serve.

These fern plants have underdeveloped spore cysts. They will grow and leaves become hard and thicken toward summer .

Winter teaches us about detachment, numbness. But it’s a way to get through. From winter we learn silence and acceptance and the stillness thickens.

overcast and gloomy today, not much good light, just a bit of color after sunrise before the clouds thickened and started dripping.
