I have been listening to this awesome post-rock band, Stagnant Nebula and they have inspired me more and more into this space-themed mood.. their song Ways was my subconscious inspiration behind this. I think I will go further with this theme for some time, it gives me a nice feeling..

That is the assignment the art school has given me. (My assessment day is next week, that is where they'll judge this assignment, two others, my portfolio and my application interview.)
This photo will give you an idea of the concept I am working with. It was a frustrating photoshoot, but I think it will be worth the effort.
What is more personal than one's self-image? Yes, a mirror may be a cliched subject, but I loved the idea of looking at this from my psychological background. I decided to take this both literally and figuratively so hang around, I'll show the actual endresult (in a mosaic) next week or so :)

Arachnephobia: The fear of spiders
Okay THIS I can breathe to. THIS doesn't bother me to the extent of wanting to start from scratch again. This doesn't make me fear I'm OCD to the point of it being life altering. The more I looked at my earlier picture the more and more I LOATHED it. I couldn't just leave it alone. So I redid it and I'm MUCH happier with these results.
Note to self: don't play with perspective when exhausted. The results are not good, no no.
I'm thinking about using this outfit every Friday. It has a strange Tim Burton feel to it that I love! So I think I will be wearing this for every fear project.
Anyway, I wanted to start with the most famous phobia of all time. Well, first I want to define phobia (it's different than a fear). A phobia is whenever you see or encounter something that interferes with your life and causes a physical reaction. So if you had arachnephobia you would see a spider on your bed and suddenly have a panic attack. Your heart would be thumping against your chest, your hands would sweat, you would run out of the room and be unable to come back into the room until you knew it was spider free. This is different than having a slight fear or being creeped out by spiders. This applies to all phobias.
One thing I can't help but wonder is why we as humans are so creeped out by spiders. What kind of insects did we encounter in the dawn of manhood that would have been such a threat it was burnt into our psyche for thousands of years? I don't know but I'm glad I don't have to find out.

So, after my ABBA obsession in high school, I had a Chess -- the musical -- obsession. I haven't listened to the recording in years, but I just pulled it out and re-swooned for "Nobody's Side." It kind of precisely captures how I'm feeling of late...when even trusting my own instincts is a challenge.

Ramana attracts because you can see his enlightenment in the luminosity of his eyes. He is forever projecting a silent power that draws the viewer into himself or herself. He is an uninterrupted beacon that steadily signals: "The Divine is you!"

Is it already January 26, 2010? I look at the date and think "Hey! That's my birthday" but otherwise I don't feel like there's anything significant about the day.
But yes today is my 19th birthday. I had so many ideas for today's picture but ultimately I went with this one. I think it fits. The magic key to a new year-a new door, consuming me and turning me 19. Eh it works lol
If you want to be technical I'm still 18. Legally I'm 19 now but I wasn't born until 11:07 PM. So every year I stay up that late to "celebrate"...kinda. I don't really do anything, it's just a ritualistic thing.
Anyway, it's been a normal day so far. Went to class, took a shower, had lunch, edited pics...I only have to go to choir for 15 minutes today :) that's lovely!
I only got a card from Patricia today. Nothing came in the mail (of course lol) but things should be getting here throughout the next week or two. I got a package from mom last night. I got a foam thing to put on my mattress (which I needed), some hostess cupcakes, and my choice between 3 months of netflicks, a printer, or extensions for my camera. I'm gunna wait to see what all I get (I'm hoping for a camera but it's really just a hope...I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt it'll happen). If I don't get a camera I'll do some research on the one I have now...though I HIGHLY doubt there is anything more I can add on/get for the silly thing. Dad told me there isn't even a self timer remote avaliable for it :( darnit. If the camera thing doesn't work out I'm going with netflicks :D

I created myself a very sophisticated, custom-made sand proofing for my d700 before taking it to the dunes. it involved a semi-transparent plastic bag and a hair elastic.
caused all sorts of problems such as somehow accidentally switching my modes to live view, but being too bright out to see anything on the screen, and freaking out when I heard the mirror flip up, but not close. thought I broke it and was going to have to send it back to nikon. Was also excessively difficult to focus, because I couldn't actually see much through the viewfinder, just had to point in the general direction, focus at something and hope for the best. I also ended up with several shots with the plastic bag blocking most of the view....pretty awesome stuff ;)
