There was a low tide, almost no wind, soft misty sunlight, nobody around and Blanca found a first-class stick to play with! As good as it gets!
There were many birds this day at MLK Regional Shoreline. This Golden Eye was taking a break between meals and thus allowed us to capture this photo. The Common Goldeneye is a medium-sized duck. Females have a warm brown head that contrasts with its gray body. It is amazing how that golden eye stands out and begs attention. They nest in tree cavities in the boreal forest of northern North America. They spend winters mainly in protected coastal waters as well as on large inland lakes and rivers.
There's not much color out in the woods during winter here except brown trees and white snow. Thankfully, there's a few showy birds like this red-bellied woodpecker around to break up that dull monotony.

There you go, I worked on this photo. I love this character. My crazy little demon from the future. He still has his lover and robot ... still his conscience and dragon. And he still continues to do stupid things. Even though I struggle in the cyber world, I love taking pictures of this character more and more. Maybe I should give him a name ... I tried to do a "movement" on this picture... Hope you like it!

There is a stark beauty in the desert. The ground is a peculiar gray color, with purple-like streaks running up the hard dunes. But there are larger geological formations here too.

There is nothing quite like the palette of a Winter dawn. While I have been capturing some Spring sunrises, the hues are quite different. Waking up early and on the cold water, it is the dream of color on the water that got me out every morning. The final photo from the "Watercolor" series. Minimal and to the point.
There is a church next to the park where I walk my dog. This cat has lived there for years. It still doesn't like me or the dog. lol

What a way to end 2021 by seeing and photographing a beautiful female Snowy Owl. Even though it was really foggy, Kevin and I walked the 2 miles through the fog to the jetty. There were a few people looking for the Snowy but couldn't find it and were ready to leave. They were looking at the main dunes. I looked over to the jetty and spotted it right away. Island Beach State Park, NJ.
There has been lots of action on the Sharptail lek in recent weeks. The males face off and fight to establish dominance - when they aren't dancing to impress the females, watching from the sidelines. The inflated throat sac and fancy, drumming footwork are entertaining for us humans, too.
