The blackbird is the most common and one of the most famous birds in our country. It is even the most numerous breeding bird in the Netherlands. Recently, however, the species has suffered from the usutu virus. Blackbirds are noisy. If a cat is nearby, they warn other animals with their loud alarm call for a long time. The nests are often easy to find, which means that many eggs and young fall prey to cats and crows. Despite these losses, the blackbirds are still very numerous: they compensate for this natural loss by raising many young. In the spring, the blackbird sings a beautiful song from a high place.
Recently in the evening at the North Sea near Oostkapelle / Zeeland / NL (10:05 pm).

Since I discovered a place close to my home where kingfishers have their nest I regularly go back to see what is going on.
Here at the end of the day I was lucky to see this kingfisher flying towards me and sitting in a tree for a while, while the light was perfect.
Very soon their eggs will hatch and I can't wait for that to happen, There will be a lot of flying with fish!
from my archives- taken 4 years ago on a trip to my homeland- the Netherlands. We took a tour on the canal at Kinderdijk-- one of the highlights of our time there. It was rather a dark day but we enjoyed it very much! It was my husband's first time in Holland-- a thrill for me!!

During high tide, the results of the filling of the Rijnhaven get somewhat camouflaged. In this part of Rotterdam, the difference between high and low tide is some 1,5 m. On the left (bottom) are the New Luxor theatre's characteristic protruding parking deck and InHolland (top). On the right is Bayhouse.

As I wrote earlier, Rijnhaven is being redeveloped. This harbour was created in 1895 to offer shelter for Rhine vessels ('rijnaken'), which could not operate during the winter due to the freezing of the rivers.
After the creation of the harbour, the transit freight traffic to Rotterdam continued to increase, and the new Rijnhaven was made suitable for large sea-going vessels by deepening it. As planned, the Rijnhaven became an essential port for the transhipment of bulk goods 'on stream' - the sea-going vessels were moored on buoys, separate from the quay, and their cargo was directly moved to rhine ships. In de 70/80s of the last century, the Rijnhaven lost its transhipment function and was brought back to its old function. In 2015, the rhine ship berths were moved to, among others, the Maashaven. Enabling the redevelopment of the old harbour.
It will be partly (30%) filled up (pure terraforming) to enable the realization of, amongst others, an office/apartment building strip with up to 200m high edifices, called the 'Skyline Posthumalaan' with an adjacent park and city beach. And there will be the floating Rijnhavenpark, too.

This photo was taken at the Zaanse Schans in The Netherlands. I used a 10 stop ND filter to reduce the light. You can see the effect on the water, and the windmill blades end up looking like a disc contour. But because the mill blades turn quite slowly the exposure of them fade very fast, so the contour becomes very light. Definitely visible yes, but a bit too light, so the exposure of the disc is slighty enhanced (darkened) to make it stand out more prominent.

Het onlangs geopend museum voor immigratie, Fenix, en de moeite van het bezoeken meer dan waard. Beklim en glimmende trappen tot de top en heb een schitterend uitzicht over de hele stad.
In het hart van het gebouw voegde architect Ma Yansong de Tornado toe: een dubbele, gedraaide trap die omhoog wervelt naar een uitkijkpunt boven het dak.
