"I had a dream this was all lit up,
but the luster's fading-
I had a dream this was all I want,
but the lust is waning-
I had a dream this was all there was,
You're nobody's favourite one"

Phidippus audax is a common jumping spider of North America. It is commonly referred to as the bold jumping spider. These spiders are easily identified both by their relatively large size and their iridescent chelicerae.
Grasshoppers belong to the Orthoptera order and Caelifera suborder. These insects are herbivorous and have very powerful hind legs that will help them to easily jump vigorously when they are attacked.
The Small long-legged fly, Condylostylus longicornis, is often found near swamps and streams. Adults and the larvae of many species are predaceous on smaller insects and some larvae feed on pestiferous bark beetles. This adult is carrying two small insects in its mouth! :)
The spider species Neoscona crucifera, commonly known as Hentz Orb-Weaver, belongs to the family Araneidae. This family of spiders is a very large one and includes 2800 species. One feature of the webs of some orb-weavers is the "stabilimentrum", a crisscross band of silk through the centre of the web. A crisscross silk is seen on the lefthand side of the spider.
"The proboscis extension response (PER) is a highly robust behavior in Honey bees [Apis mellifera], like many insects, extends their proboscis when it finds nectar in a flower."
The eye of Small long-legged fly, Condylostylus longicornis. The insect eye is a compound eye consisting of thousands of tiny hexagonal tubes called ommatidia. Each has its own lens at the front and its own cluster of light sensing cells at the back.
The Dolichopodidae, or long-legged flies (Condylostylus longicornis), are one of the largest families of Diptera, with more than 6,000 species worldwide. Best known for their long legs and the bright metallic green, blue, and yellow hues of the most conspicuous species, most are small, 5 to 10 mm long. This fly is carrying last bite of food in its mouth (black spot).
Hawk moth, (family Sphingidae), also called sphinx moth or hummingbird moth, any of a group of sleek-looking moths (order Lepidoptera) that are named for their hovering, swift flight patterns. These moths have bullet-shaped bodies with long, narrow forewings and shorter hindwings. The proboscis (feeding organ, which is black in color in the picture of some species measures up to 32.5 cm) is used to reach nectar receptacle of the flowers.
The monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) is one of the most iconic species of butterflies although it is sometimes confused with it’s lookalike butterfly, the Viceroy. The upper side of the male is bright orange with wide black borders and black veins. The upper side of the female is more of an orange-brown with wider black borders than the male. This is a male monarch butterfly since it has a black spot on it's hind wing.
A spider web is a structure created by a spider out of proteinaceous silk extruded from its spinnerets, generally meant to catch its prey.
The spider species Phidippus audax, commonly known as Bold Jumper or Daring Jumping Spider. This spider actively watches its prey with its sharp vision.
Crane fly (Tipula simplex), any insect of the family Tipulidae (Order Diptera). Crane flies are sometimes known as mosquito hawks or daddy longlegs. Crane flies have a slender mosquito-like body and extremely long legs. These flies feed on nectar from the flowers.
* Larger size, in case you can't stop squinting.
[For Maddie, because she's so good about reminding me I need more green in my life.]
I took a half-day today (because I am awesome, and also because I deserve it) and am "working from home," which really means I'm really sitting around in a bookstore cafe, wondering where the power outlet is so I can continue with my internet before my laptop battery dies on me.
Clearly, I'm not doing productive work-related things. Shhhh.
Special thanks to the book, How to Cook Everything Vegetarian, which served as a willing backdrop to my letter.
PS: The filum really IS rocking.
"By all these lovely tokens September days are here,
With summer's best of weather
And autumn's best of cheer."
~Helen Hunt Jackson
"In the pattern of the heavens and the earth: when something has reached its extreme, it then returns; when something has waxed full, it then wanes... This is exemplified in the life cycle of the myriad things." Sun-Tzu
And with that fresh in your mind... I shall leave you with this silly song :)

Still running behind...a day late...yesterday's selfie...a quick run out and shoot...time is escaping me these days...haven't had much opportunity lately to shoot other things...soon, I hope.
Hope you all are having a wonderfully bright Monday!
The Red Admiral Butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) is a medium-sized butterfly with black wings, orange bands, white spots.
Long-legged fly (Condylostylus spp.) is typically seen darting from leaf to leaf on a plant. These flies are predators of smaller plant insects like mites and aphids.
Damselflies (Zygoptera) can be red, brown, yellow, green, blue, black or combination of these. The adult has a long narrow body and holds its winds together over its back and much smaller than Dragonflies.
Perception is a mutha sometimes. We all do that, we look at the surface of things, not thinking about everything under.
We all see things for what they seem. It takes a truly intelligent mind to see things for what they are.
Taoism is about learning that what we attribute to things, is not what they are. That a child's mind can sometimes be more intelligent, because they do less presuming. Interesting thoughts.
Read the Tao of Pooh...yeah...that pooh. It's an interesting book.
I am leaving in the morning for England. I'll be in London for a little over a week, and I'll only have internet there if I can steal it. I'll still be doing my 365, etc, but I won't post it until I get to uni and have internet.
If you need me, flickrmail is the best way to get in touch, since I'll notice it right off the bat.
Anikki picked this for me to post. It's from this day in May.
Housefly belongs to any member of the insect family Muscidae (Order Diptera). Although the mouth parts of flies are of the sucking type, individuals show considerable variation in structure.
