It has been a good summer in Vancouver for Eastern Warblers, a Chestnut-sided, Ovenbird, Tennessee and now a Black-and-white! This bird was first found by Jacky Ip on July 5th and I was happy to relocate it early this morning.

Terranova di Pollino means the new land though in relative terms was founded during the end of the 16th century so not entirely new though it is the highest village in the Pollino park at 3000 feet and is a great base camp for those that want to explore higher elevations. The village has only about 15000 inhabitants but if you see the village from afar you would be wondering how so many fit onto the side of a cliff as the village appears to have been stuck onto the mountainside as an afterthought.

Occasionally my wife gets upset with the drive that my GPS and I provide to get to some of the more remote locations like this village, we approached from through the park and used some roads not found on a map but looked drivable at least to me. I wouldn’t follow my phone over a cliff but most times it is usually right, in this case I started to have doubts though did not express them to my lovely wife as the road started to deteriorate into areas you drove into and out of, calling them potholes would have been an insult.

After about 40 minutes of our backroads drive to the village with more than a few tears I had to pull over and think about whether to move forward or not as the village was only 15 minute further and going back required another 40 minutes of bad road already traveled. As luck would have it while my wife and I were discussing our options outside in front of the car a parade of Panda’s appeared on the horizon as we watched them get closer each of the three ancient Panda’s was driven by an elderly Nonna, they waved as the passed us and kept going towards the village , laughing our asses off we were soon following them.

My favorite spot on the Zocalo. Every Sunday I treated myself to a cup of good coffee and the famous "Tierranova Flan," flan served over homemade vanilla icecream and drenched with Vanilla liquor. Ummmm....

Ofc we had to celebrate after a successful day of race security....SLCG knows how to party!

With that, they drifted on, their songs mingling with the endless voice of the sea.

Terranova di Pollino is one of the main destinations identified by hikers who want to discover the highest peaks of the park.

Because of its position, in fact, the country is an excellent access route to the Serra Dolcedorme (2267), considered the absolute roof of the park, to the Serra delle Ciavole (2127) and to the Pollino mountain (2248).

The luxuriant vegetation of beech and chestnut woods is typical in the territory where, moreover, you can admire the extraordinary specimens of the secular Pini Loricati, symbol of the Pollino park, visible above all on the summit of Serra di Crispo (2053), called the " Garden of the Gods "because it is considered one of the sanctuaries of this rare tree species with a twisted trunk.

In the Terranova di Pollino territory, within the more extensive protected green area of Italy (with its 192,000 hectares), the imposing rocky wall Timpa Falconara, which dominates the valley landscape, the high spur Timpa di Pietrasasso, over 50 meters of ophiolitic rock, and then Lake Duglia, on the northern slope of the Serra di Crispo, the Garavina gorge, a deep fissure on the bottom of which flows the Sarmento, right in the upstream part of the town of Terranova and, again the Fondo lake, on the slopes of the Serra di Crispo.

Of particular suggestion is the Catusa spring, close to the homonymous district in which there is the cave of the brigands, with the names of those who took refuge there.

PARKING IS FOR RESIDENTS ONLY

Among the islands around Venice, Burano is probably the best known. To tell the truth, it is also very beautiful: its colorful houses on the narrow canals are something different even from Venice itself.

During a pleasant walk through its streets, its fields and its canals, you will come across several small shops that sell artisanal products with the local specialty: lace. Even those who are not passionate about this art cannot help but be amazed by the skill with which the lace is created and the detail of the subjects represented.

Home for the night, Corner Creek Campsite.

I had a head wind all the way, but the final few KM into the campsite were ridiculous. Luckily it's well sheltered or I don't know how I would have set up the tent.

I was hoping to set the tent up somewhere more photogenic originally, but I'll settle for not being blown away,

Tent is by Terra Nova, super lightweight and so easy to set-up even when I'm really, really tired. Easy job to pack up in the morning too, cannot recommend enough.

Elsdorf, Duitsland

The Terra-Nova Aussichtspunkt is one of the vantage points around the largest brown coal mine of the German energy company RWE, the Tagebau Hambach. Here, lignite (a fossil fuel) is excavated by opencast mining (Tagebau). Opencast mining is a form of mining, but unlike closed mining, as you can see, the damage to the landscape in opencast mining is enormous. At the end of 2017, the Hambach lignite mine had an area of no less than 43.8 square kilometers.

Remarkable: Tagebau Hambach is the lowest above-ground point in Europe and one of the lowest on earth (299 meters below NAP).

Terra Nova National Park, Newfoundland & Labrador

I was traveling from Toronto to Venice, flying above the Terranova and Labrador territories, when I opened my window and noticed a faint glow.

I set the mobile phone to long exposure, high ISO and infinity focusing, and took a shot. The intense green of an aurora appeared on the display
