The elegant Great Egret is a dazzling sight in many a North American wetlands. Slightly smaller and more svelte than a Great Blue Heron, these are still large birds with impressive wingspans.
They hunt in classic heron fashion, standing immobile or wading through wetlands to capture fish with a deadly jab of their yellow bill.
Great Egrets were hunted nearly to extinction for their plumes in the late nineteenth century, sparking conservation movements and some of the first laws to protect birds. The Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society, one of the oldest environmental organizations in North America. Audubon was founded to protect birds from being killed for their feathers.
Not all young that hatch survive the nestling period. Aggression among nestlings is common and large chicks frequently kill their smaller siblings. This behavior, known as siblicide, is not uncommon among birds such as hawks, owls, and herons, and is often a result of poor breeding conditions in a given year.
Great Egrets fly slowly but powerfully: with just two wing-beats per second their cruising speed is around 25 miles an hour.
The oldest known Great Egret was 22 years, 10 months old and was banded in Ohio.

I had only expected to shot the Twin Cities & Western today in Hopkins but found myself chasing all the way to Cologne when the St. Paul Turn just kept on going west.

I mostly like diving ducks of which the Pintail isn't one. But it is in my opinion they are the most graceful and elegant of the ducks. Its a dabbler and doesn't really dive like the divers. Also doesn't need the long runway to takeoff can just pop right off the water.
FIMX 4023 emerges from the damp darkness of the former Tennessee Central tunnel at the summit of the line near Westel, TN. It's all downhill from here, as 4023 will ease this mineral train down the mountain to be interchanged with NS at Rockwood.

MINOLTA TC-1と下から見上げた湯本大橋と軽トラック
湯本温泉の音信川にかかった国道へと通じる橋だ。
音信川はこの先に流れている。落としていたと思っていたMINOLTA TC-1が見つかったのでうれしくてあっという間に撮り終えてしまったフィルムの中の1枚だ。MINOLTA TC-1は小型軽量なのでいつでも持ち歩く気になるし、いつでも鞄から取り出して撮る気になるカメラだ。この時も橋を下から見上げた時の光と色味がおもしろくて撮りたいと思ったものだと思う。軽トラがいるのもいい雰囲気だった。背後には倒産して廃墟になりつつあるホテルがある。散歩で湯本温泉を歩いた後の帰宅時に撮った1枚だ。

昨晩はカミサンの合唱の送迎で車でルネッサながとへ行った。夜のルネッサながとをSIGMA BFで撮ったがなかなかいい感じにはならなかった。曇り。夜か朝方には雨が降っていたようだ。朝から萩の病院で心筋梗塞の経過観察のため車で出かけた。今日はひさしぶりに各種検査をしレントゲンを撮った。特に異常とか変化はないようでこれからもしばらくは生きていけそうだ。薬局で薬をもらった後、ひさしぶりにモスバーガーで早い昼食を撮った。その後、アグリ中央市場へ寄った後、市立図書館へ行き県立図書館から借りた書籍をピックアップし、その後コメリへ行った後帰宅した。帰宅したらフィルムの現像がようやく届いていた。時間が合わなかったりちょっと精神的に疲れたように感じたので今日の散歩はお休みにした。

MINOLTA TC-1と雨にけぶる山口の公園
最初は無人だったが、その後、駐車場から県立美術館へ行くであろう人達が歩きだした。
のんびりお昼を食べたりする時には良い公園だ。桜の季節には花見をしている人達も見かける。いついってもあまり人がいないのでとてものんびりできる公園だ。この日は雨が降っていたので誰もいなかったが、その後通り抜ける人達がいた。このくらい手入れされた公園があるのは正直うらやましい。MINOLTA TC-1は、こういった雨の日にも取り出して撮る気になるカメラだ。レンズが濡れないようにする必要があるが、それ以外はなんとかなりそうな風にできている。実際にどうかはともかくとして。

曇り。午前中は艦これのクォータリーをやりながら電書を読んだ。午後からカミサンと散歩。向陽小学校前を通り、国道へ折れ、セブンイレブンでアイスと飲み物を購入して買い食いしながら歩いた。板持川の側の道を上流に歩き帰宅した。SIGMA BFで旧国道の前におそらく国道沿いの道の風景を撮ったりした。MINOLTA TC-1、FUJICOLOR 100でちょっと高い所を通っている国道から眺めた水が張ってあり田植えの終わった田圃や山々を1枚だけ撮った。

MINOLTA TC-1と国道316号線の歩道から眺めた日没後の市道と電柱
散歩中に見かけた風景だ。
SIGMA BFで撮ったついでに撮ったとかだったかもしれない。明暗差が大きいのでなかなか難しいと感じる写真ではあるが、ガードレールの光のぬめり具合などがいい感じだ。街灯が光っているのも電柱に当たった光でかろうじて見える。夕暮れの時間帯はどこに露出を合わせるかでかなり雰囲気も変わってしまうので、なかなか難しい。夕暮れも何度か撮っているので、日付を特定するのにはちょっと苦労した。

昨晩は、カミサンの合唱の練習の送迎でルネッサながとへ車で行った。SIGMA BF、Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3で館内を撮ったりした。今日は雨後曇り。日中はずっと曇り空だった。午後からカミサンと散歩。今日は順番からいけば光陽小学校前から国道へ折れるコースのはずだったが、ひさしぶりに珈琲館乃亜に行きたかったので長門深川廃寺跡前コースにした。長門深川廃寺跡前を通り、深川川の手前を右へ折れ、国道沿いに歩き珈琲館乃亜へ行った。乃亜でコーヒーとホットケーキを楽しみつつ、電書を読んだ。SIGMA BF、Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3で散歩中の風景、乃亜と乃亜の店内から眺めた風景などを撮った。
