In a Dark Gothic Tarot deck, the Fool's journey transforms into a descent through ruined castles, misty cemeteries, and the darkest corners of the human psyche. Here, traditional symbolism is tinged with shadows, macabre elegance, and a melancholic Victorian or medieval aesthetic.
The Awakening of Shadows (0 - VII)
0. The Fool: An outcast walking toward the edge of an abyss, followed not by a faithful dog, but by a wolf or a shadow. He represents blessed madness.
I. The Magician: A necromancer manipulating ethereal energies. He not only commands the elements but also negotiates with the veil between life and death.
II. The High Priestess: The guardian of forbidden secrets, seated among columns of bone. She represents intuition whispering from the darkness.
III. The Empress: A gothic queen in a garden of withered roses and thorns. She is the mother of nature in her cycle of life and decay.
IV. The Emperor: A tyrannical monarch on a cold stone throne. He symbolizes rigid order and absolute control that ignores human fragility.
V. The Hierophant: A high priest of ancient cults. He represents imprisoning tradition and hidden knowledge that only a few can bear.
VI. The Lovers: A blood pact under the full moon. It is not just love; it is a predestined union, sometimes tragic or vampiric.
VII. The Chariot: A funeral carriage drawn by black horses. It is the triumph of will over chaos, moving forward without looking back.
The Trials of the Soul (VIII - XIV)
VIII. Strength: A nightmarish beast, not through violence, but by accepting its own inner darkness.
IX. The Hermit: A specter who wanders through catacombs with a lantern of cold light. Seek a truth that the outside world cannot comprehend.
X. The Wheel of Fortune: An iron spinning wheel where fate spins tragedies and glories. Nothing is permanent, except change.
XI. Justice: In the most implacable corner of the Gothic realm, Justice is not a benevolent virtue, but a cold and absolute reminder that every debt must be paid.
XII. The Hanged Man: A voluntary sacrifice on a withered tree. Enlightenment comes through suffering and a change of perspective.
XIII. Death: The most natural figure in this deck. A skeletal knight who frees souls from their prisons of flesh.
XV. Temperance: A black-winged angel mixing blood and water. It is the alchemy of pain to find spiritual balance.
The Abyss and the Ascension (XV - XXI)
XV. The Devil: The master of our addictions and basest desires. In this style, he is usually an elegant demon who seduces more than he frightens.
XVI. The Tower: A castle struck by a crimson lightning bolt. The destruction of the lies we construct to protect ourselves.
XVII. The Star: A solitary figure pouring water into a black lake beneath an icy sky. It is hope shining in the deepest night.
XVIII. The Moon: A nightmarish landscape where fears take shape. It is the realm of madness, illusion, and the subconscious.
19. The Sun: A pale or eclipsed sun that reveals the naked truth. It is not warmth, but the relentless clarity that burns away the shadows.
20. Judgment: The sound of a trumpet awakening the dead from their Victorian tombs. It is the hour of redemption or final condemnation.
21. The World: The end of the journey. A figure encircled by a crown of thorns or black laurels, having integrated their light and shadow in an eternal dance.
Note: In this type of deck, the focus is not on "fear," but on the beauty of melancholy and the recognition that darkness is a necessary part of enlightenment.

Ich habe Jean Tinguely gebeten, das Rad des Schicksals in einem Brunnen zu konstruieren. Das Wasser würde dann aus dem Mund der Hohenpriesterin fliessen.
