Tanah Lot is the home to the ancient Hindu pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah Lot. It sits on a large offshore rock and is only accessible on foot at low tide.

The Temple is one of the seven main Balinese "sea temples".Its name means "land in the sea" in the Balinese language. The main deity of the temple is Dewa Baruna, also known as Bhatara Segara, the sea god or embodiment of sea power.

The shrine appears completely different when a line of white-clad devotees and pilgrims winds up the winding pass from the bottom to the top of the temple.
