The Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Osage County, Oklahoma is the largest protected area of tallgrass prairie in the world, spanning 40,000 acres. It is managed by the Nature Conservancy. In North America, the original tallgrass prairie ecosystem made up the eastern portion of the Great Plains. It extended north and south from Minnesota to Texas in a fairly narrow band between the eastern deciduous forests to the east and the mixed grass prairie to the west.
The tall grass along the Credit River is slowly turning from green to dry straw. I couldn't go farther in for the shot because the grass grows in mud. Texture added to background.
A celebration of past times in Missouri, when tallgrass prairie lands were more abundant and hardy settlers came looking for a home. Today, bison and elk roam here and tall grasses wave in the never-ending wind...

From time to time I go back to older photos, and find something that I simple overlooked years back. This is one of them. What I like about is its simplicity.
There are so many things that you can't buy with all the money or power of the world, like a sunrise, the sweet smell of the flowers, the melodic song of a bird, and so many other things that I would not have space to write on.
So, if you feel like I do, smile an enjoy the ride...
.Something to think about:
Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Photography is my passion, and nature photography is my favorite.
I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.
I'm in many groups, and I only add my photos to them if they are not private.
I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!
The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

"...Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind."

It's always nice to see the tallgrass prairie vegetation showing off..... before it all turns to winter brown.
The tallgrass prairie is still all dead and brown when the brave little pasqueflowers begin to bloom. Historically, pasqueflowers often opened up about Easter time and gave rise to their common name. Notice all the tiny fuzzy hairs on this plant's stem, leaves and petals that add insulation to repel the cold on freezing nights. I checked to see if these pasqueflowers were blooming on Easter Sunday but they had not emerged yet then.
I don't usually go out on overcast days, but I liked the clouds on this particular day and gave it a try to see how they looked with the colorful fall tallgrass prairie wildflowers.
