Found in Colleville-Montgomery, Normandy (close to the old D-Day Sword landing beach). Complete with the poem Fleurs du Mal by Charles Baudelaire. It is quite fascinating - and a tad bit strange.

from the beginning of the year

It could be a a tad sharper but it was taken through the glass window of my 7th floor hotel room in Liverpool . It does however give an impression of the size of this extraordinary building . In fact the only way you can get a good shot of Liverpool Cathedral is from some distance away . If you are close it defeats even a super wide lens .

Liverpools Anglican cathedral is the largest cathedral in England and the fifth largest in the world . It is also the most recently built. The cathedral is based on a design by Giles Gilbert Scott, and was constructed between 1904 and 1978. The total external length of the building, including the Lady Chapel, is 207 yards (189 m) making it the longest cathedral in the world. I will post a shot or two of its interior at a later date.

One thing that is remarkable is that there are many photographs of the construction of the building in a museum. Unlike the medieval cathedrals in Europe you can actually see the faces of the builders of this church. It will have kept many Liverpool workers employed during the 74 years of its construction

Op een zonovergoten maandag in januari liep rond de middag een interessante melding binnen: HSL was via de Montzenroute onderweg met een lege kunstmesttrein richting BASF. Om 16h moest nog een examen afgelegd worden in Leuven, dus zolang de trein geen overdreven vertraging zou maken, zou een plaatje langs L35 nog perfect mogelijk zijn.

Rond half twee werd de syllabus dichtgeklapt en aangezet richting Langdorp. Door de staking bij de NMBS die dag moest ik geen reizigerstreinen meer verwachten, maar na een kwartiertje wachten sloot de ondertussen verdwenen overweg zich en werd het gebrom van een Class 66 steeds duidelijker hoorbaar. Enkele tellen later passeert de PB15 met een mooi homogene sleep Tads’en als trein 44598 het in een dun sneeuwlaagje gehulde Langdorpse landschap. De foto (overigens de enige van januari) was binnen, waardoor vol goede moed richting Leuven kon worden afgezakt.
