Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) is a pioneering synth-pop band hailing from the United Kingdom. Formed in Wirral, Merseyside, in 1978, the band rose to prominence during the early 1980s with their innovative fusion of electronic and orchestral elements. Comprising core members Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, OMD established a distinctive sound characterised by catchy melodies, synthesizer-driven arrangements, and thought-provoking lyrics.
OMD gained widespread recognition with their breakthrough album "Architecture & Morality" (1981), featuring hits like "Enola Gay" and "Joan of Arc." Known for their experimentation with electronic instruments and cinematic soundscapes, OMD became influential in shaping the synth-pop genre.
