Netherlands
Gideon Kiers, David Kiers and Lucas van der Velden are the founding members of Telcosystems.
Telcosystems researches the relation between the behavior of programmed numerical logic and the perception of a conversion of this behavior into the physical world, seeking its own narrative in the world of abstract spatial image and sound. The hallmark of their work is its lucid and restrained aestheticism, which is closely related to the technology they use.
They produce films, video clips, live performances, installations, software, soundtracks, and prints.
Semaphore
2008, installation
Semaphore is a cinematographic installation that emphasizes a subdued and meditative state by submerging the audience in a world of pulsating and shifting shapes. The work is created from two basic compositional premises; pulse and feedback. The backbone of the composition is a stream of visual and sonic pulses,leaving its intervals to be explored and brought to life by a feedback generating network, consisting of envelopes, gates, compressors and masks.The intertwining layers provide the experience of an elaborate audiovisual time-space-continuum. Running almost entirely without input from the outside world, the system becomes a magnifier
of its own rudimentary functions and algorithms.

I'm pretty happy with how these turned out, despite all the similar poses (I was restricted to my 4th row seat). When you consider that they were taken with a point and shoot (the new Canon S90) at ISO1600, the resulting image quality is very good.

These words were inspired by a synesthesic night we shared behind Hercules tower...
