This is “Toranosuke”, a Shiba Inu owned by my friend, a Japanese sword polisher here in the USA. The Shiba Inu is alert, confident, courageous and bold. DNA studies reveal that the Shiba Inu is descendent from the extinct Japanese (Honshū) Wolf. The Shiba is the smallest of the Japanese native breeds, which include the Kai Inu, Hokkaido Inu, Kishu Inu, Shikoku Inu, Tosa Inu and the Akita Inu. Despite its smaller size it was bred to hunt wild game including bear and boar.
“Toranosuke” embodies the spirit and heart of a Samurai warrior.
Since watching the jungles episode of Planet Earth II I was really excited for an opportunity to photograph this hummingbird with a quite crazy adaptation. The long bill allows it to feed on tubular flowers not accessible for other hummingbirds thus creating an advantage. Little is know about the nesting rituals of this bird, word is BBC is on the hung to find their first nest.
Alias: Silent Sword (mostly just what people call him in the papers, but he doesn't refer to himself as the Silent Sword)
Name: Kono Ito
Gender: Male
Alignment: Hero
Backstory: As a child, Kono was taught how to kill supernaturals. Whether that's monsters, demons, ghosts, or other creatures that threaten human kind. One night, his family would be slaughtered by the kitsune Akuhei, and his Oni minions. Instead of being killed, Akuhei would take Kono's voice away. Causing enough chaos for one night, Akuhei left, leaving Kono to see what remained of his family. This night of tragedy would push him into his mission of eliminating every supernatural creature in the world, including the one who took his family away from him. Kono prefers isolation, as he believes anyone that gets too close will die. His signature weapon is a katana, which may have mystical properties attached to it.

Sword beach at Colleville-Montgomery - where troops landed on June 6 1944. Today it is mainly used for bathing (though the water may be quite cold in the beginning in June...).

Zuro Loma Reserve, Ecuador - Definitely one of my favorite birds from the trip and a really cool Hummingbird.

Loosely based on the nose of the AH-1 because I work with Cobras and Vipers once in a while and they're rad. Also present is a radar dome like you would see on a Kiowa or Apache Longbow for sick Hellfire millimeter wave guidance and lock-on-after-launch action.

This plant of the orchid family is endemic to Europe, Asia and Northern Africa.
Prefers chalky forest grounds of beech and oak forests.
They can grow pretty tall, the opened one on the first photo was about 60 cm (2 ft) high .
The flowers are normally closed, they open only in the brightest and sunniest hours of the day.
As all orchids, they are also protected in Germany and Austria.

I seem to be unable to stay in my usual groove here for MELO... so here's a fun 1:1 sword that's way unlike anything I've ever done before!
I was hoping to finish this in time for Summer Joust, but although I did finish a prelim version of the sword, there was no way I was getting photos edited in time--and if you're not going to do it right, no sense in doing it at all! So, I built myself some spikes and borrowed my brother's epic cape ;)
As for the sword itself, it's not exactly swooshable, but it's sturdy and moves well through the air if you're careful. And it is super fun!
I also got to integrate some brand new constraction pieces I picked up just last Friday, so that was cool!
