White Cart Water , Waterfoot , Glasgow

This spot is normally a dark jumbled mess of debris but it seemed slightly more inviting this morning. A touch of early light and a bit of a shape in the swirlpool made it worth a shot.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the interest in a couple of colour abstracts I have posted recently. So I have decided to post a small series of 5. (This is number 3 of 5)

The effect is achieved through post processing, although selection of the base image is critically important. I have chosen to apply a high degree of ''radial blur'' to simple images with multiple bold colours. The selection of blur parameters also significantly affects outcomes. Inevitably, I add or subtract an eclectic mix of other ingredients such as contrast and saturation. ;-)

So you try lots of options and discard many failures. But then there are some where the planets align!

Although I reside in Australia, all of the images I've chosen for these colour abstracts were shot by me in South American countries renowned for their use of bold, bright colours.

This uber-cool view is commonly seen and an obvious choice for this location. A little too wide for my wide angle lens; an extra mm or two would have been nice as 12mm wasn't enough.

I had a bit of a trade-off to make here. I would have liked to show the violent nature of the falls themselves with all of that water churning over the brink, but at the same time, get the swirlie pool of water below. In the end I went for the swirlie pool using a 64x (6-stop) ND filter.

I came across this fall with my Dad after a long walk through the river desperately trying not to let our wellies fill with water. This little fall is hidden from sight unless you walk about a mile or so up or down river.

This is the first year I have shot waterfalls so the novelty of swirling pools of leaves and foam still hasn't worn off yet! :-)

Hi everyone!

A couple of new images taken during a sunrise visit to Newcastle Ocean Baths and Beach this morning.

A 2.9m swell and 1.5m seas made for an interesting morning, while scouting one of my favoured locations around these parts a couple of large rogue waves poured a massive amount of water over the rocks I potentially could have been standing on - it pays to scout the scene and location well before starting off and setting up!!

I was accompanied again by fellow flickr tog Paul Hollins.

This is a view from beside the Canoe Pool at Newcastle Beach looking south towards the Bogey Hole and Redhead in the distance. Taken an hour after we arrived and the tide had dropped a little.

giving some context to the previous photo.

So i have reached the end of my france photos, and by popular demand the frame has gone! :D

This is a handheld HDR [-2..0..+2] i did of a very shinny building in Manchester, UK. I used "Stuck In Customs" amazing HDR Tutorial to achieve my overall effect. I highly recommend you check it out!

I have used a symmetry flip in the photo to make each side of the building the same. The idea was inspired by Guido Musch. You should check out his photostream he has some great work.

Please leave a comment. I will take any constructive criticism.

Taken a few days ago after work at South Bar Beach in what was tricky conditions - between showers and heaps of sea spray!!!

Rough seas and onshore winds helped to create nice drama, but was a pain in the butt trying to keep the filter clean!!!

Here I managed to capture a couple of whirlpools being created by the surging swell washing into the foreground rockpools....

Hope you like this one - check it out Large on Black for best views!!!

Have a look too at my other images if time allows......

Thanks again for viewing - have a great week and day!!!

The River Callan at Tassagh (near Keady County Armagh). Beech leaves add a nice touch of colour to the river bank. Bubbles swirl just below the waterfall giving a hint of movement. Hard to see this without the long exposure. ISO pegged at 100 and camera on the tripod with the 10-22mm lens. F22.0 to get as long an exposure as possible (no filters used). Early morning shot just after 8am so light only starting to increase.

Good Friday and we went for a damn good shoot on the South Lawson waterfall loop to get amongst some creek and forest action.

Although there has not been a lot of rain around lately, there was more than enough to give us a decent subject to shoot.

Good to meet up with Jaime Black after hearing a lot about him through Edwin, who also came along for the trip.

I am always on the lookout for swirling pools and water motion, so whn I came across this, I got pretty excited... ENJOY...

This morning I made the trip out to the Mothar Mountain rock pools with the local camera club.

I'm not that happy with the rock detail in this image, but I'm stoked with how the swirls turned out & thats why I posted it.

Was a great morning out shooting wet rocks & the like, I also shot a few fungi which I may post later.

I hope everyone got out with their cameras on the weekend, can't wait to see all your shots.

Shot out at Silver Falls Sate Park. My friend, Jon Ingram, who was mildly obsessed with finding the perfect swirl pool, was shooting this comp and graciously let me take my own shot of it. Thanks Jon!

For a near perfect end to a perfect 4 day Christmas weekend Jason and I decided to do the short hike to the Upper Falls on Sharon Creek. The original plan was to scramble down inside the gorge and photograph the falls from below, but my shoes didn't seem up to the task of stable snow walking so we opted for the hillside shots. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

The Town of Richmond Hill has made a commitment to providing residents with recreational facilities and services of the highest standard. The fully accessible Lois Hancey Aquatic Centre is an excellent example of this. The Aquatic Centre is a unique facility because it is the only publicly operated aquatic centre in the Greater Toronto Area with a wave pool. Other amenities at the aquatic centre include: a swirlpool, an on-deck sauna, a thrilling 160 ft. twisting water slide, male, female and family changerooms, aquafitness, lane swims, leisure swims and swimming lessons for all ages and levels.

It must have taken a frightening amount of water to make this pool as it is so high above the present day water level. Either that or this is an ancient pool.

At the swimplex in Waterloo, Ontario. Behind it is the enormous hot tub "swirlpool" that's the size of a large backyard pool! May 2006.

For this card I tried several of Jennifer McGuire's Thinking Inking ideas, so much fun! TFL!
