On my trip to White Pocket I met with the "Action Photo Tours" of David Swindler. Watching their performance, I was very impressed. The scenery is lit by 2 Low Level LED lights: one positioned behind the rocks on the right the other in front of the scene on the left. Thanks Johnny for letting me participate.
"And the old men that I've swindled really did believe I was the one..."
Here’s a shot from my first trip out to the southwest after a 5 week hiatus while recovering from surgery and catching up on some "real life" issues. My apologies for my absence and many thanks for understanding.
Last month, I was kindly invited by David Swindler of Action Photo Tours to accompany him on his Milky Way workshop to do a Google Earth Scouting presentation for his clients. David’s shooting technique is incredibly technical and produces fantastic results, his ability to work with multiple people on such a technical process was impressive. He not only takes you to the location of your choosing(Weather allowed) but also makes sure that you understand the process and have the shot on the card before leaving. If I wasn’t invited as a guest speaker I would have gladly paid for his very informative workshop.
My highest regards go out to David, Cody, Ingred and all the other team members working there at APT, what a great bunch of fun people, I still had a perpetual smile on my face two days later.
I am providing Skype workshops for those of you interested in learning more about Night Photography, Lightroom and Photoshop. I have been using photoshop professionally for over 25 years and I’m sure I can take your processing to the next level. There are SO many features and tools in photoshop that are being completely overlooked by most photographers. If you are interested in scheduling a Skype session on any of these topics just send me a DM or flickr message and I will be happy to schedule a personalized session just for you. I guarantee you will be happy with your session. Any skill level is welcomed from the newbie to the seasoned professional, and I’ve taught quite a few of them now.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great day my friends!! :)

The species is native to Peru and, in the wild, spreads like a bedding beneath larger plants. However, it can also be grown in pots and kept indoors.
Here's a look from within the Goblins Lair in Goblin Valley Utah.
During my last trip to the southwest to collaborate with David Swindler of ActionPhotoTours.com and Dennis Maisel, we were sure to schedule some time at Goblin Valley State Park. Normally I just head off into the valley looking for interesting formations, but as we were unloading the gear I saw a sign that said something about a Lair trail off to the south that wraps around the back of all the formations and the valley. At about a mile in, a trail branches off to the right leading up to a crag in the rocks with a small opening. We climbed up and entered a chamber with five openings to the sky with a ceiling around 60 ft high and setup to take some photos. During the trip David had been pretty keen about grabbing a shot of his scene and then a secondary shot with him included in the scene for scale. I thought this was a great idea and have started to do the same. You pick up a lot of little things when shooting with primo photographers like David and Dennis and I would like to take the time here to say thanks to David and Dennis for including me in their winter southwest shooting trip and hope that one day I will be able to return the kindness. Thanks again guys, It was an awesome trip!!!!!!

He stands in awe of the colorful striations in the solitude of the Utah badlands.
Here's a shot of David Swindler of ActionPhotoTours.com standing against the painted backdrop of the desert southwest.
Well, it's been a month now since I haven't received any notifications from flickr on my iPhone iPad or Laptop. It seems my flickr account has finally broken and I can't tell whats going on without constantly monitoring my stream. It's awfully lonely out here without the random chirps it get from my phone letting me know people are looking. This really blows!!!! I'm trying to be patient but I don't know how much longer I can deal with the hiccups at Flickr Headquarters.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, If you like them please share them with your friends or add it to your gallery, and as always your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!!

OH MY GOSH!!!!
I'm back from the conference, what a humbling experience that was. I was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.
As technical coordinator for the conference I was in charge of the projection and needed to be there as each presenter passed off to the next to make sure connections worked and such. On top of that I had to take care of last minute bootcamp schedule changes, rehearse my script for the presentations, and prepare for the workshops I was to co-host with Wayne which if any of you know Wayne isn't over till the the rooster crows the following day.
That was taking on way too much, I think I might have gotten 16 hours of sleep in 5 days. Whew, I'm relieved that's over but sad too. I would have to say that Royce Bair has got to be one of the most charismatic individuals I've ever met. I had the honor and pleasure to spend the 48 hours leading up to the conference with him comparing notes and talking shop.
I had to have been running on pure adrenaline and dopamine for five days straight.
Hanging in the lobby working with Dustin LeFavor on his new laptop, chatting with David Swindler, eating cake with Ryan Smith and purchasing some of that cool swag Phil Monson had in toe. Royce, Wayne. It was just too surreal. These guys are my hero's!! Man, I was pumped. What a great community of peoples.
Anyhow, I shot this one using a new technique I concocted out of desperation. Let me explain, a couple of years ago I went to a location with my bro-tog Bill McIntosh at night and forgot my intervalometer. I was trying to create light trails using a long exposure. I fiddled through the camera settings and found "Multiple Exposure Mode" Hum, maybe a could use that I thought, then further into the settings I found "Additive Mode" and the light bulb went off over my head. In photoshop, the additive terminology is used as a reference to "Lighten Only Mode" I set the camera to take 9 exposures and stacked them in-camera using only the light from the remaining eight exposures. The best thing about this technique is that I don't have to do that long exposure noise reduction technique that doubles your exposure time and you cut your ISO by 50% or better. So in essence you end up with a photo that has more detail at a lower ISO that takes half the time to shoot. Cha-Ching!!! Check out the Meta-Data, It works awesome.
I showed Royce and his eyebrows went right up to his hairline, He was really excited to try it out and confirmed that this is a great technique for stacking in-the-camera, in-the-field.
Nice to get validation from one of the best in the business!!
This is a shot taken during the first nights workshop and what a great group that was. Hope everybody had as much fun as I did.
Thanks as always, for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and reading my descriptions.
I am always grateful for your views, comments, faves, and support, they are truly appreciated!! Have a great day my friends!! :)

This shot was taken at Grizzly Island Wildlife Area in CA
The sun casts its early morning light over the Temple of the Moon in Capitol Reef, Utah.
Here's a photo I grabbed down in Capitol Reef while on a trip out with David Swindler of ActionPhotoTours and his buddy Dennis Maisel. I was fortunate enough via David's magnanimous spirit to spent all last week scouting and exploring the desert southwest with he and his buddy. What an adventure that was, exploring some of the most remote locations in the southwest with amazing photographers and friends. While scouting this area the day before I noticed a butte across from the temple, so in the early morning I climbed up there to get a view out over the valley. I knew I would be doing a bit of hiking around this morning so I went to grab a bottle of water from my ice chest which sat out all night while we were out nightscaping. When I opened the lid I couldn't believe my eyes, the whole contents of the ice chest was frozen solid, Humm... I guess they only work from the inside out. Hehe. I pulled out my buck knife and started to chisel one away quietly as not to alarm the others, That's all I need for a first impression is of me going "Psycho" on my ice chest for a bottle of water. It's so great to shoot the southwest in the winter, that is if you can stand the cold mornings and bone chilling wind. I found the southwest in the winter is eerily like a ghost town, not a soul around, except for some locals and ranchers going about their daily business and the roads are wide open, no need for a passing lane at this time of year, and the Christmas decorations in all the little towns along the way really helped to boost my holiday spirit. Only drawback is that "ALL" campgrounds are closed during the winter, so you have to camp primitive style in BLM areas. The only campground I found open was the Goblin Valley campground which was convenient since I was planning to do some nightscapes there. :-)
Warning!!! I like my scenes to depict a lack of humanity so I have removed the roads and signs from the shot so don't expect it to looks exactly like this if you show up there looking for this same shot. :-)

A wonderful day walking in the Swindale valley, wild lonely and so beautiful. The series of waterfalls at the head of the valley were delightful. Go with the flow by Queens of the Stone Age is perfect.

My activity here has been sparse as I do not have pro and do not have very many uploads left. I would get pro if I could afford it but ... I can't. Flickr was once my most favourite place to upload to & I miss it.
