Jeepneys of Siquijor, Philippines
The first 'jeepneys', the main public transport in many Philippine cities, as well as between regional centers, were modified SUVs that the US military abandoned in the country after World War II. Customized with Filipino details, they sport chrome, colorful headlights, radio antennas, paintings of the Virgin Mary or comic book characters. Service routes are written on the sides of the vehicle.

Over the years I've seen many photos of this lighthouse and yearned to see it for myself, should I ever end up in that part of the world. Well, today I went, and nearing it I had my doubts about whether going there was a good idea. The road to it is the roughest road I have ever driven on. Potholes 8 feet wide, and with hidden depths. They were all briming with dark water so it was hard to gauge how deep. Would the front of my large SUV drop into the depths? Would it be damaged? I got to the car park at the end. It was a pond surrounded with a grassy bank. I managed to get my car up on the bank with the benefit of four wheel drive. My brain must have been severely jolted on the way because on arrival on the beach I had forgotten all the mental tips I gave myself regarding shutterspeed, exposure, focus, etc. And my best laid plans went to pot. So with quite good conditions to play with this unfortunately was the best result I could get. However, I don't really feel like navigating that road again.

Obama visited the Washington Post, which is directly across the street from my office, Jan 15th. Created quite the excitement on 15th Street, NW.
I was bouncing and swaying inside one of these trucks while shooting this photo thru the windshield, it was rather difficult to keep the AF point on the truck in front of us lol. I have plenty of shots of the dashboard, steering wheel, A-pillar, my thighs, the roof, etc
It is called the red dune desert because of the red hue of the sand due to the iron element from the location.
