El grupo Massacre es atípico, por no decir, una vez más, que son una banda de culto. Esto es, aquella que marca caminos en soledad que luego serán transitados por otros. Con diecisiete años de trayectoria, pueden además enorgullecerse de no haber sido llevados a otros terrenos que los que ellos mismos eligieron.
Pero si el grupo es así, más aún puede decirse de su guitarrista, Pablo Mondello. Principal responsable del aspecto musical del grupo es, sin embargo, poco visible para el mundo, salvo cuando está sobre el escenario. Además, su vida no es sólo la música: también es médico psiquiatra.
Parecía entonces el más adecuado para hablar del último CD del grupo que presentarán hoy, por razones casi obvias; su título es "Doce nuevas patologías" y los temas están agrupados en tres categorías: las fobias, las obsesiones y las culpas.
Sin embargo, Pablo confiesa que no fue cosa suya. "Es una idea estética de Wallas, una idea conceptual pero abierta", dice. Frente a la desilusión que esto provoca, Pablo se ataja: "Soy muy riguroso y las patologías, justamente, son un mundo que se cierra en sí mismo. El arte y las patologías son diametralmente opuestos. La patología es un vacío, el callejón sin salida de la creatividad. Es un lleno de vacío".
–¿Eso lo escuchaste en el consultorio?
–Sí, claro.
De todas formas, si la idea fue de otro, e incluso el concepto apareció tarde –fue, dice, sobre el último tramo de la hechura del disco–, se agrupó bien finalmente. Y lo que importa, en definitiva, según señala, es el impacto que pueda causar. "Pero te estoy dando el secreto del error, me estoy deschavando", dice. ¿Bromea?
Pablo es responsable del aspecto musical del grupo, quien compone los temas que luego, entre todos, terminan de definir con los arreglos, aclara. "No trabajo con las letras, sino con los sonidos. Los sonidos me hablan", dice este hombre de buen oído.
Es exigente, y se nota: exigente en su búsqueda y en no caer en fórmulas ni repeticiones. "El punto máximo –dice– es cuando un tema se mantiene a través de los años, cuando tiene impacto y resonancia." Estos conceptos de impacto inicial y resonancia que perdura volverá a utilizarlos más tarde cuando hable de su otra ocupación y de un proyecto que tiene entre manos, en el que intenta unir ambos mundos. "Estoy intentando utilizar la música como recurso terapéutico. A veces, ves que un paciente está como poseído por algo que le dijeron, que tenía que ser tal o cual cosa. Yo puedo interpretarlo, pero a veces resulta que escucha, entiende, acepta, pero no pasa nada. No se produce el impacto y la resonancia. Ahí, quizá, la música podría funcionar, porque al estar más allá de la razón, puede entrar por un otro canal y desarmar esas resistencias."
También es exigente respecto del estado del rock de hoy. "Se repiten muchas fórmulas y eso atenta contra la música. Picasso decía que se había copiado de todo el mundo, lo que es mejor que repetirse, porque en la copia ponés algo tuyo, te lleva a otros lados. Sucede que cada vez hay menos músicos y más estrellas. Hay mucha cultura del ego y eso te encierra en vos mismo. La música no es tuya, está en un lugar invisible, y si tenés la suerte de tener un canal sensible, la podés captar. Por eso, es terrible cuando alguien dice «yo lo hice», porque es pensar que sos Dios."
Este terapeuta de sonidos no ve, de todas maneras, todo negro. "Todos tienen una luz, aunque sea pequeña. Estoy seguro de que hasta en Mambrú alguno de ellos tiene algo. No sé... Esta es la descripción de una situación que puede ser de enfermedad, pero también, potencialmente, de salud."
–Estás haciendo un diagnóstico...
Pablo sonríe. Pero lo cierto es que Massacre ha logrado un lugar que está lejos del estrellato, pero bien cerca de sus certezas. No temieron a los cambios y se desmarcaron de los lugares fijos y ahora tienen un disco que muestra ese camino. Admite, de todas maneras, que también existen las tentaciones. "Cuando compongo también me pasa que pienso si no tendría que hacer esto o lo otro. Es el sistema o Dios, como quiera que lo presentes. El sistema es el mundo del espectáculo, el que duplica. Dios es la vida; es el que rompe estructuras."
