UP YPR60B emerges out of Grand Avenue Yard behind the #815 long-hood forward passing Prairie Materials Yard 32. One of the largest concrete suppliers in Chicago, Yard 32 supplied over 5,000 cubic yards of concrete in under 24 hours during the construction of Trump Tower (seen in the background) using a fleet of 30 trucks each making nearly 600 round trips. Alas, the facility gets all of its shipments by barge.
Seen in one of the inner courtyards of the old police station (Altes Polizeipräsidium) in Frankfurt/Main, Germany.
When I saw this old Volvo truck, I knew I wanted to do something with it. I have long studied how the loading area could be "meaningful" filled. Suddenly it was clear to me, the Orbs must have come from somewhere, which can be seen on Lightpainting pictures all the time ;-) And the idea took its course... Went on a photowalk yesterday with my friends Guy and Wasim. Took to the back streets around Balestier and stumbled upon this traditional Singaporean bakery. Inside and outside were loafs of white bread stacked up and ready to ship out to kopitiams around Singapore. I asked one of the staff if I could look around inside and she said that they are one of the main suppliers of bread to Ya Kun Kaya Toast, a famous coffee shop chain.
Also took my Voigtlander 20mm f3.5 out again after sitting in my dry cabinet for a while. Keep forgetting how excellent this little lens is. It's small, super compact, and beautifully built of solid metal with a super smooth focal ring.

Auckland Railway Station is located more than 1 km away from the Auckland business center. Frequent service to Queen Street was provided by the Queen Street Shuttle trolleybuses.
Trolleybus service in Auckland had an unusual beginning. The Farmers Trading Company ("Farmers") built the largest department stores in New Zealand at Hobson and Wyndham streets. This was two blocks away from Queen Street, the principal shopping street - and up a steep hill. The company started a free bus service during 1922 (the initial vehicle, with solid tires, was not successful).
During the early 1930s, the company offered to purchase a small fleet of trolleybuses, finance construction of the overhead contact system and other necessary infrastructure, and pay the municipal transport operator to operate the service. The trolleybuses, lettered "Farmers Free Bus," entered service on 1938 December 19.
The first "suburban" trolleybus line, to Herne Bay, was opened on 1949 September 24. The system expanded as tramway lines were replaced. The last tramway line was closed on 1956 December 29.
The trolleybus system reached a peak system length of 113.8 km (70 miles 47 chains, at 1964) and 14 lines. The peak fleet size was 133 vehicles (1960-1967).
The last new trolleybus line, the Farmers Pitt Street circular, was opened on 1961 March 7. The last extension, Waikowhai to Lynfield, was opened on 1966 February 20. However, closures began just two years later, when Meadowbank trolleybuses were replaced by motorbuses (1968 March 31). The operator decided during 1972 to close the system. Most trolleybuses were replaced by motorbuses during 1975-1977, leaving only the Queen Street Shuttle, the Farmers Free Bus and the Herne Bay lines worked by trolleybus.
The "last" scheduled services worked by trolleybus were operated on 1980 September 26. On 1980 September 28, a Sunday, the Auckland Regional Authority (ARA) operated a farewell shuttle service on the Queen Street line, using two vehicles.
Earlier in 1980, ARA ordered equipment and 20 vehicles for a "new" trolleybus line between Herne Bay, Queen Street, the Railway Station and Newmarket. Then, in 1981, ARA attempted to cancel the plan following a change of management. The supplier refused to agree and conducted a public campaign against the decision. This was not successful, but ARA was obliged to purchase "everything" ordered. The 20 new trolleybuses were sold to Wellington.
I did not know that Auckland's last trolleybuses would make their final runs just three months after I captured these images. I had the time, and the film, and so photographed the remaining system as best I could.
1980 June 25.
